Happiness is a competition.

So, yeah, the Fitbit thing is working out great...

It did enjoy my activity at the zoo on Saturday, but that still didn't add up to the 10,000 step goal that is the default when you set it up. Thing is, I didn't realize that, yet, and so the other day I upped my goal to 15,000 steps a day, because I was thinking by the way the thing tells you with 5 little lights that you've reached that 20% of your goal, that I was easily getting 10K steps each day.

Nope. I got my first 10K-step day yesterday. Because of the 3.5 or so miles I walked/jogged last night.

And then I got home, synced up, and found out that one of my coworkers, who has been steadily ahead of me, was STILL 1,000 steps ahead of me for the day!

Now, her lifetime total is still 9,283 ahead of mine. And I've told her, It Is On. We're competing for top space, even if one of our other coworkers is actually ahead of both of us (he goes around and around the building all day at work, while we spend most of our time at our desks).

I forgot my little USB connection, today, so I won't know how I'm doing today until I get home. By then, I'm sure I'm going to have to go for another 45-minute walk/jog.

I'm loving it. The Fitbit has even given me motivation to get back to tracking my food, because what I put in here on SP shows up there on my Fitbit dashboard.

At this point, I'm thinking of going to one of the back buildings whenever I need a new cup of coffee, or to go to the restroom, or... talk to someone, instead of calling them or emailing. I've got to catch up. I didn't know I was so competitive.

First of all - "It Is On" emoticon I'm a competitive person, and I think it is wonderful that you have someone to compete with.

Second - I didn't even think of bringing the USB thing to work with me each day. It drives me nuts having to wait until I get home to sync! I thought about buying a second one, but for now I'm going to see if I can carry it back and forth without losing it. I have a desk job, too, and I need to figure out how to get up and moving.

I didn't think I was competitive until I got my pedometer. I never thought that a little device could have such an impact. emoticon emoticon

I'm guessing those other folks don't stand a chance - once you've determined your goal, you WILL make it!

Oh, you could try parking farther away from the building, too.

I love the great relationship between fitbit and sparkpeople -- so easy to use! I feel good, too, when I see those little 'charts' fill with color to show my activities.

Sometimes when I want a boost, I find that I just wander around my office building! People probably think I'm lost or something. ;-)
