So, as some of you are aware, this weekend I did the Spartan Dash at Edelweiss Ski Resort in Wakefield, QC.
For those of you who are not familiar with the Spartan Race ( www.spartanrace.com
), it's a 5km race and obstacle course. Or so their website said. Really, it was a 6.4km trek uphill (3 times) periodically interrupted by mud holes, walls over or under which you must go, barbed wire, hay tunnels, weight lifting, monkey bars, water features and more hills.
Last year, my friend Gene did it at the Rideau-Carleton Raceway

Note a slight difference in the terrain? Yeah? So did I.
We went up and down those bloody hills THREE TIMES. Three. Not once, or even twice (like, say the guys two years ago at Camp Fortune, when the Boy did HIS Spartan), but THREE BLOODY TIMES (bloody not used here as a swear, but instead as an adjective). The third trip up and down were on a black diamond route (aka VERY STEEP!).
However, all complaining aside, I did pretty well. I failed the "dip walk" -- essentially walk on your hands across parallel bars -- because the bars were too far apart for someone with my width of shoulders (too bad they wouldn't allow for creatively overcoming obstacles: otherwise I'd've bearwalked across the bars!), and the rope climb. It took me 2 hour 37 minutes to finish the "race". I successfully climbed the two-metre walls without difficulty, and the ten foot wall was conquered with a boost from my mountain-man friend (whose glasses my boobs apparently dislodged during said boost: he didn't complain :P). The monkey bars and rings were fun, the leap over fire was easy enough, and I successfully hit a target with a "spear"... not the target I was aiming at, but I hit a target :P
Long story short, I completed the Spartan Race. I might be convinced to do it again, maybe. I'm not a runner -- and likely will never be one -- so I would rather do exclusively an obstacle course, but since this seems to be my only option, I suppose it will have to do :)
I also survived softball the next day. We lost, a lot, but we had fun and rallied at the end for a whole 11 runs! WOW! (We were down 29 - 0 up until that point... LOL)
Hope everyone is having a fabulous week!
