The next step

Sunday, June 16, 2013

I have been reading the book "weight loss surgery for dummies" & thinking a lot a about the surgery. They have set the date for the next step on this journey. In a week & 1/2 I will be going for the blood test & the second appointment. I believe this one will be more of an individual assessment, The last was a group information session.

In addition to this I have discovered that hemochromatosis runs in my family this is blood disease that causes you to have too much iron in your blood. if you have it they have to take blood every so often to lower your iron levels & keep you blood from poisoning your organs. I was worried that they may decide that this could exclude me from the surgery. So I started to search the internet and see if any one with a family history of this disease or who has the disease has ever had weight loss surgery & how this effected the surgery. I was surprised to find that in many of the cases were a person had hemochromatosis before the surgery they no longer had to have blood taken regularly to control the iron. The most important thing tat this means to me is that it will not automatically exclude me from the surgery, of course this is something I will have to discuss this with my health care providers before I will know anything for sure but this sounds hopeful.

Oh I also read an article this week that part of the reason a good part that the surgery is working for so many is the change in bacteria in the intestine... apparently thin people have a different kinds of bacteria... hence I have been doing probiotics in another method to get thinner.

My friend in Kingston signed up for it but they put him on a liquid diet first and he is losing lots of weigh... like 72 pounds in a few months and maybe will not have the surgery now... He has more energy he says. HE IS HAPPY WITH HIS PROGRESS.. Good luck on making the right decision emoticon

Part of the reason WLS changes so many things is because it changes the way the body absorbs things.

Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies is a fantastic book. It is a wonderful source of information. I know that was my go to book throughout this entire process.

I wish you the best of luck

It's amazing how surgery on your stomach changes so many other things! My WLS improved problems with my ovaries. Keep up the research.
