So I met with the personal trainer/wellness coach at the Y last night. Her first questions to me were "What can I help you with? What is your goal?" I told her that primarily, while I am trying to lose weight, that I needed help with strength training. I said that I had experience with regular body weight exercises, dumbells, resistance bands and medicine balls but I really wanted to learn the machines. I told her that the area of gyms with weight machines quite honestly was a mysterious and intimidating area that looked like a bunch of metal with levers and knobs. I needed help knowing what I am looking at, how to use them, which ones I should be using, and how much weight and how many reps.
I'm glad I did this. She was so friendly and enthusiastic. She helped me design a workout for my needs and took me to no less than 12 pieces of equipment and showed me how to manipulate the weights and adjust for my height. There were some pieces there that if she hadn't showed me, I'd have no clue how to put my body on them, lol. I would have been sideways, backwards and upside down! It was very helpful and afterwards I felt I had made a friend at the gym :)
