Day 11: Dances With Rainbirds

Thursday, June 13, 2013

Feeling better every day of this "Phase 2" of my Spark Program.
My shoulder's still messed up so I am limited on certain activities
but I'm adapting and doing what I can.
I've scheduled a massage for tomorrow. That'll be good.

I can tell that I've passed into another stage of "Phase 2".
This passage was mental, not physical.
The first tell was deliberately passing up the chocolate
at the store a couple days ago.
I am paying more attention to my food selections, quantities, tracking.

The temps have been quite cool for June. Yesterday I made a big bowl of vegetable soup. Today I made tomato soup. Hearty, filling, yummy, very satisfying. And warm.

I've been working in the yard as much as I can. Today I was relocating three rainbird (sprinklers) from one section of the yard to another. Because I don't like to get wet, especially when it's cool outside, I try to set the rainbirds at the end of the length of the hose, away from the faucet it's hooked up to, so I can turn them on in sequence without getting wet.

So, I had a series of three set up, ready to go, and proceeded to turn them on one by one. The first one worked just the way it was supposed to. I thought the second one was working too, but as soon as I turned on the third one, it started spinning and shooting water everywhere. I turned to run away from it and ran right into the second one.

Now all 3 of the sprinklers are drenching the yard, but 2 of them are misfiring, sending out eratic geysers of water everywhere, looking more like water ballerinas than rainbirds.

I try to time my approach to the faucet to shut it off so I don't get wet . . . well, lotsa luck with that!

Needless to say, by the time I had them shut off, I felt like I had been through another of Coach Nichole's BootCamp workouts!

And I was thankful for a warm bowl of soup!

I sympathize with your sprinkler dilemmas. For years we only had underground sprinkling in half of our yard that my DH ha installed. The rest of the yard was strewn with strategically placed hoses hooked up to rainbird sprinklers. At our faucet outlet we had a multivalve attachment so it was like each area had its own sprinkling zone. We still had to be there to turn the valves from one zone to another. Those darn rainbirds were forever messing up and we too did the "rainbird dance" ! Last summer we got talked into completing the underground sprinkling and putting it all on a timer. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT ! ! ! My "rainbird dancing" days are done. We have a very small city lot so this was a relatively easy project. Can't figure our why we didn't do it years ago. Maybe this will encourage you to consider switching the kind of dance you do emoticon

"Water ballerinas." That image makes me smile. emoticon
You've inspired me to make veggie soup. It's hot here in Colorado, but because of all the smoke from the huge fires south of here there's so much smoke in the air that we have to keep the A/C on and the windows closed, so the house feels unnaturally cold. Soup sounds good. I think I'll make some cornbread to go with it.
