Day Two of Vet Visits

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

So after another sleepless night with the puppy and him still being in so much pain, we went in to the vet again. They did the X-ray and it is not a break. But the doctor noticed a few new symptoms and we were able to figure out that it is not his actual foot that hurts, it's the neck. Our tentative diagnosis is cervical neck pain caused by either an intervertibal disc pinching a nerve or its in the shoulder burcipal area. We don't know for sure because that would require an MRI and our vet isn't equipped with that kind of machinery. Bottom line is that we're treating him with heavy painkillers, steroids, and a muscle relaxer and hoping he'll get better. The bad news is that it is a 4-6 week recovery time where he is not allowed to go for walks. I just lost my workout buddy! emoticon It sucks but there's nothing I can do about it until he's better. I'll just have to be my own workout buddy and work twice as hard!

I'm so sorry to hear about your puppy!! We just returned from our dog (age 6) having an MRI. We are seeing a specialist which is about 2 hours from where we live and they use a facility for humans -- after hours and after all the humans have been served first. Our dog has two herniated discs and will have surgery on Thursday.

Keep getting out there for those walks!!
