My second weekend

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

This month I have a schedule I can remember with the same days off a full month in a row. I am playing with boundaries for the livestock, again. When I decide I will hammer in more permanent T post and adhere the cattle panels. The animals just look at me like "she's at it again". The last three bottle lambs are weaned but still much underfoot. The original bottle lamb of 8 years ago has decided to live on the barnside of the fence..at 200+pounds he is a bit of pain to work about but has been minding his manners...hasn't offered to butt me yet. The ponies are a bit less reactive to the big flies that pop up with increased humidity. I did not spray them immediately as I think they need to learn to handle some amount of irritation without panic. When they settled down and stopped kicking and running I sprayed them well so they could eat their hay without discomfort. We train Thursday.
Today was steady and tomorrow at work will be busy. I was hopeful to get away a little early to get my Bearded Collie to the Veterinarian. I managed to get out just in time to make the appointment. She has a cystitis and needed some antibiotics to straighten her out. Allergies, age, stress all attribute to that at this time of year. She is not a fan of storms and we have had a few.
I have begun to hear some firework booms as that is the next holiday around the corner. I am most pleased for the good rains to counter the wildfire dangers.

When you spoke of the ponies being able to handle some irritation, I know this is good, especially if they get around high traffic areas. When I lived in England, I was absolutely amazed at how well the horses coped with street traffic. I hadn't the chance to ask anyone there that spent much time around horses. You don't think they abuse them to get them that way, do you? I mean I do worry about the Brits and some of their ideas of appropriate and more humane animal treatments (they don't want you to string up a fish and keep it in the water, you're to first bludgeon it over the head-aaaaaagggggggghhhh!-and Guy Fawkes day, although that one is rather humorous-every year they applaud a man for blowing up parliament).

At first mention of the bearded collie going to the vet, my more sarcastic side went to "what, for a shave?" Sorry, I'm not partial to facial hair on men so it rather eeks over to animals ...LOL

May we all get through the storms of summer unrattled and unscathed.

Thank you for a wonderful blog and comments on my page! Always a cheery point in my day.
