Back at juicing :)

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

So after a hiatus where I had my thyroid surgery and recovered, I'm back at the juice fast. I decided to do it for two weeks, because after that my sister will be home from school and I will be going camping for a week.

I had a regain of 8 pounds since the end of my last juice fast, which wasn't too bad considering 5 is the water weight, and that I was completely immobile and off synthroid for over a month. I have already lost 5 pounds, so now I only have 3 to lose to get back to where I was. There was something comforting about going back to juicing, because I know how good it made me feel even though I was very sick.... So imagine how great I'll feel if I'm well!

Yesterday wasn't hard like the first day last time. My appetitis (as my father used to call it) has settled down and I'm not constantly hungry like I was before. I know when I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism as a teenager, I lost about 40 pounds over the course of 6 months (basically I wasnt overweight anymore-then the weught loss stopped) just from going on synthroid.... I anticipate a bit of weight loss again just from being leveled out. I would definitely take a 40 pound weight loss now-then I'd be 12 pounds from my goal :)

The juices yesterday were orange, grapefruit, carrot for breakfast and nice peachy green for lunch and a spicy vegetable cocktail for dinner. I was very strict about not adding anything last time, but I did put a dash of hot sauce into it since we were out of cayenne.

Since I can't yet exercise, I will busy myself today around the house and garden. Next week I meet with the surgeon to get the A-ok to resume normal activities. Then I plan on easing my way back into a twice daily yoga routine and hopefully... Fingers crossed, some light jogging. We will just have to see how it goes!

Hi JSM, I'm happy to share the recipes, the orange, grapefruit carrot has one grapefruit, one orange, one large carrot, and a small 1/2 inch finger of ginger. You can use green apples for a slightly tarter juice. The peachy green has two peaches, 3 leaves of romaine lettuce, one apple and a handful of spinach. The spicy vegetable cocktail has one small cucumber, two tomatoes, 10 basil leaves, 1 clove garlic, 1/8 small onion, 1 stalk of celery, small handful cilantro, a dash of hot sauce or a cayenne to taste and 1/2 a lime. You can add spinach, lettuce or kale to this as you like-I usually add a couple handfuls of spring mix.

If you need more recipe ideas let me know :)

So glad you have recovered from your surgery. I have never tried juicing, but some people really like it. Best wishes to you!
