I hadn't planned to do this run. I've been focussing on my up coming triathlon the coming weekend. Saturday my plan had me doing an open water swim practice. (I suck!) and a short run. Well that was the day of the starlight run. I made a comment about it to my husband and he said 'why aren't you?" Me cause I didn't think about it.
WELLL>.. a quick post of Facebook at 6:30 am landed me a free entry to the run! I guess I was suppose to do it. Me and 7,000 people! OMG.. I HATE PEOPLE.... Why do I keep putting myself in these things.
Some of my running club friends where there at the race/run. It's more of a 'fun run' than a race. As there is no official chip timing. It's also a major costume event. It's a spectacle to say the lest. I wasn't going to wear a costume. But I did wear my triathlon t-shirt I got last year. So I was a 'wanna be triathlete'.
I placed myself to far back in the crowd and behind a bunch of girls. The cool thing is this is a running mentor thing for girls on the run. They group up young girls with others and they do one or two training days with them and then run this race. It's cool and I endorse it. However Next year note to self.. start in front of them!!!
I had to dodge so many people! I had one simple goal of this run and that was to run the whole thing. It's along a parade rout that will take place right after the runners finish running. So there are a lot of people to cheer you on. It was a nice day here in PDX, and the streets where jammed with people. It brought tears to my eyes to see them all and to know that we are not afraid to be there!
This course also has a fare amount of hills in it, and as it was nice, it was HOT! And a lot of people. I managed to run the whole thing and do it with a time of about 34 min. Not a record time for me, but not bad as well there was a LOT of PEOPLE.
When all was said and done I was not planning to stay for the parade, so I RAN the mile back to my car and headed home.
I felt good after that. Good that I did the swim in the morning, and the run in the evening and still had energy to go. It's the level of fitness feeling I want to have all the time and to keep.
Today I ran on the precore (and it's sunny and hot out side) tonight donut man and I are talking about a bike ride.
Saturday is my sink or swim race..... YIKES!!!
