Practicing the word “No”.

Sunday, June 02, 2013

Do you ever feel like you're training yourself to understand the word "no" again.

Sometimes, I truly feel as if I'm having to train my mind every time the thoughts of not doing the exercise, writing down food, wanting a freaking beer – to immediately throw that thought out and say the word no.

I mean it's a very simple word – no. One syllable very easy to say. But as adults, I find that we have to truly relearn that word.

We know what's good for us but we occasionally still want the self sabotage ourselves.

So for today I'm going to practice using the word no.

No, I will not skip my bike ride.

No, I will do that yoga routine.

No, I will write down all the food that I eat.

No, I will not have that beer that's in the Frig. Okay, maybe I will have that. But I will write it down. The houses on both sides me this week have a gazillion cars in front of them and I hear them constantly – so yes, I may drink. But, I'll write it down.

I'm right there with you concerning neighbors and a beer!! I got them across the street, though it doesn't seem to diminish the noise. I love the new thinking about "NO." Think I'll start using it on myself!!

Oh yeah, I feel ya there..it might help to say YES though..

I find the negative "NO" slant can feel like a such a drag and I'm bound to rebel against it sooner rather than later.. so instead I just tell my self YES all day & night.

    Like
YES to how awesome it feels when exercising..its one trick that has worked for me to just keep telling myself "aw yeah this feels awesome, YES I feel great, YES I love this, etc.." - all while moving the bod..

    Also
I Say YES to the beer (more often wine tho), and Yes to the kind of movement I'll actually enjoy..like dancing even for 10 minutes at a time while drinking the beer..heck, its a start! Plus its much funner & both count! I'll even save up calories for a pizza If I want it! I say YES! To my goals AND to what ever I really want..I just keep my calorie balance in check with it all..and if I do go over I just get back on that saddle the next day..everyday..

In other words, I allow in the positive associations towards the new habits I choose to have while also being realistic and saying yes to what you really want in the moment too..therefore I have far less sabotage material to work with..

For me, Its all about "lightening up" and saying YES to Life, realistically, everyday..one day, one moment at a time..
