Alaska cruise

Friday, May 31, 2013

My sister and I have talked for years about taking a trip to Alaska and doing a cruise. A few months ago my niece and her husband came back stateside from Japan (he is in the Navy), and they came and spent a few days with us. Talked turned to things we would like to do and an Alaska trip came up. Seems like she was really interested too, so we thought we would see who else in the family wanted to go. My niece got on Facebook and posted about taking a family cruise the summer of 2014, everyone start saving your money.

Well, we are going this year instead and we sail in late June. Not quite 2 months ago my sister was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and she also has 2 spots in her thigh bone. So since she may not be here next near we are going now while she can still enjoy it. There are only 4 of us going, my sister and I and our niece and her son's girlfriend. We are doing the Tracy Arm excursion and the girls and I are going to zip line in Ketchikan (we have never done it before).

The reason for this blog is that we want to find places to check out in or near where we put in. We stop in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. So if you know of a great place to eat or some nice shops featuring local artists please let me know. Thank you in advance.

took an Alaskan cruise years ago. Enjoyed it. The ship will have tours at every port. More expensive than booking at the port. They scare you about the ship taking off if your not on board. Will only wait for their tours. It's a bit of a scam, but I took the ship's tours just in case. Have been told to port city tours are fine. & get you back on time.
    Enjoy.
