Fargo Marathon 2013 ~ What a difference a year makes!

Saturday, May 25, 2013

So this is my second year of running and walking during the Fargo Marathon Weekend....
Again I had a great time!

Over the year some changes have occurred, I've gained 20 pounds (of which I am not proud of - )when I told my sister Susan how much I had gained, she said "Good - You looked anorexic last year!" - I am 10 pounds over my goal weight (I'm trying to keep the yo-yo in check). My sister, on the other hand has lost 40 pounds!!! She is so much happier. This is us last year - and this is us this year .

This year, Gary had decided not to be more than my supporter and photographer.... he does not like walking in races, my brother-in-law Jim did the Go Far Challenge with Susan and me by participating in the 5k Friday night and the 10K Saturday.... Sue and Jim's daughter came home for the weekend and also participated in the challenge doing the 5k (walking with Sue) and running her 2nd Half Marathon (she has just become a runner!! WOOT! WOOT!)
Sarah, myself and Susan after the half marathon with our Run Fargo 2013.1 shirts

So getting back to my runs - Friday night 5K.... 7,600 run/walkers - I finished with a 26:36 and 4th in my age group - I had a 7:50 first mile and scared myself, ended up walking 3 times during the run! .
Saturday morning started out rainy - but when we got going it was misting ever so slightly - perfect conditions.... we had so much fun! Oh maybe I forgot to say that we walk this half marathon! emoticon We hammed it up for the marathon "official" photographers, we thanked the volunteers and the spectators AND we finished in 3:33:57 - 20 minutes better than last year!!! crossing the finish line hand in hand and enjoying the moment!!!
Last year at mile 12 Susan had told me she really hadn't thought she was going to finish that half marathon, and only because of me did she, this year she had some hip pain but never thought she wasn't going to finish and was smiling at mile 12

Now to prepare for my other summer runs! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Way to go and you look fantastic right now! I think your sister is right when she said you were too thin last year. Isn't that a funny thing to hear! You look very healthy at the weight that you are at right now. Congrats on walking that half marathon. that is outstanding! emoticon

    Awesome post Patty!
Wonderful time for your 5K. I understand the fear of running too fast, I am always fearful that if I attack the course too quickly I will burn out and have to walk (which is not a bad thing but just something that I want to avoid).
Great pictures, too. It looks like you had a fun time with the family! Looking forward to next year's race report! :)
