Choices, Choices...and an update

Friday, May 24, 2013

So I have a race coming up in September and I have decided I wanted to round the year out with one more. On November 2nd there is the Rugged Maniac and there is the Mud Dog Zombie Run. I was leaning towards the Rugged Maniac because its at a different location BUT I have a 50% off code for the Mud Dog Run and dang 50% off is pretty darned good. LOL.

I don't have to decide until May 29th but now I'm starting to lean toward the Mud Dog. I don't have a problem running 3 different types of races in the samne location...heck if anything I can probably make good time come November since I'll be relatively familiar with the grounds.

Its not like I can't afford it its just hard to pass up 2 people running for the price of one and these races can get expensive. I'll tell you a secret though... my husband HATES zombies so I kinda think it would be good motivation for him to run in a zombie race. I want us to run together since we were in different waves last time but I may screw myself. He could be so terrorized by these fake zombies he takes off and I don't see him till the finish : p

So as for what is going on.... This last workout of mine was Stronglifts B.. Squat/OHP/Deadlift. It was a little frustrating because I actually failed in the lifts. On the other hand that is a bit exciting becuase the same day I failed I got an e-mail from the Stronglifts site about plateus and how to handle them. It said that I shouldn't be discouraged about this because it puts me in the category of a more experienced lifter. The plan is to stick with the same weight for 3 workouts and do what I can. If that doesn't push me though then I need to deload by 10%. Its nice to have a backup plan there.

I was able to do 3 sets of 5, 80lb squats. OHP was 65 lb, rep amounts were..4, 3, 3, 3, 2. I was able to do the entire Deadlift amount of 85 for 5 reps.

With that said since I didn't finish my entire workout like I was hoping I threw in some additional work to help build the shoulders and legs...arnold presses, upright rows, walking lunges, jump squats.

I feel good though. I'm making good progress. I look at myself and think you know if I could just get this layer of fat off the top I would have a pretty nice build under there. I have to, have to work on nutrition. I know in my heart that I will not get the progress I'm really wanting until I get better about it. I don't believe in cutting stuff out entirely, I believe in balance..I just need to have better balance.

Saw this on Facebook today and thought it was a good, true, quick read...
