Cholesterol Update!

Got my cholesterol checked earlier this week at the doctor's. It's only been a smidge over 2 months (instead of a full 3), but I was already there.

Cholesterol = 230 (Down 32!)
Triglycerides = 233 (Up 23, damn)
LDL = 133 (Down 30!)
HDL = 50 (Down 7 ... shoot)

I have been advised to start taking fish oil daily. Yuck! But I'll do it. Also to eat more green veggies, fruits, nuts, avocados (love those!), and olive oil. I've been making a small effort to eat more healthfully, so it looks like I really need to step it up. She said fewer carbs, which is sad because carbs are delicious in my mouth!

I'm disappointed in the Triglycerides and the HDL, but I am proud of myself for almost getting my LDL in the normal/good range and for bringing down my overall cholesterol a good bit.

Goal for this month (in addition to getting 500 fitness minutes): overhaul my snacking habits. Carrots and PB instead of PB crackers. More nuts and fruits instead of chocolate or cereal. And also making a concerted effort to have a least one fruit/veggie in my breakfast and also in my dinner.

    I'm happy to see you made a difference in your cholesterol and LDL! You've had the exercise down for a couple of months, now you just need to improve your diet. You might have to be more vigilant about sunscreen. I've heard fish oil can cause sun sensitivity. emoticon
