My next adventure

This year has been great so far. I have completed 2 obstacle races, and 3 5ks so far with many more to follow. The big surprise is that I let my friend talk me into signing up for a Metric Century bike ride. Honestly, all she really did was ask. She pretty much does whatever crazy stuff I come up with so I figured what the heck.

For those of you that don’t know what a Metric Century is (I didn’t until that day before I signed up), it is 100 Kilometer or 62 mile bike ride. I know, crazy……..

I ride on the canal with my family a lot so to go out and do 10 to 20 miles in one trip is average for me right now. I also take an hour long spin class one a week at my local gym. So I figure that all I have to do is triple my distance between now and race day, which is in October.

We had our first short training ride yesterday which was only about 30 minutes or so. We made sure to pull a few inclines. Nothing serious but we definitely got our hearts pumping. I think I need a remedial lesson on how to use my gears correctly. I am sure there is some trick to it that will make my rides just a little be easier. Anyway, it rained the entire time we were out yesterday. Thank goodness my partner in crime didn’t see the lightning off in the distance. Hopefully the weather will be a little bit nicer tomorrow for our first long training ride. We are scheduled to log between 1 to 1.5 hours.

If anyone has some words of wisdom for a first timer, I would love to hear them.

Thank you for all the advice I have already gotten from my new Cycling-Road, Mountain, Run, Racing team members.
