The Firm, Juicing, etc.

So today is day 4 of my Firm workout challenge, which is 2 weeks. It is also the day I picked to juice all day since I am off work. All is going great, my energy is through the roof! For breakfast I had am orange drink and lunch I am having a green drink. The recipes for juices I am getting from which is the guy who made the documentary Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead. I am interested to know if anyone else is doing any fitness or nutrition challenges? I have self created the ones I am doing so even you did too let me know. Not everything in life has to be "organized."
I am also happy to report that it has been just about 3 months since I gave up soda and coffee! Happy Wednesday to everyone, now it's time to go plant my garden. :-)

    To answer your question, I decided on smoothies instead of juice for a couple of reasons:

    1. We already had a Vita-Mix blender that we got refurbished 15 years ago. I didn't really want to put money into a juicer without knowing whether I was going to like it or not.
    2. I bought a cheap juicer at Goodwill a couple of years ago. I found it hard to clean, and I hated throwing away all the goodies that the juice didn't use.
    3. I was concerned about the nutrient content of the stuff I was throwing away. It seemed wrong to throw out so much of the food.
    4. I heard Dr. Joel Furman say that you should never have fruit without fiber, because the fiber helps manage the fructose. Since the, I have read that blending breaks down so much of the fiber that when you drink a smoothie, the sugars in the fruits are digested nearly instantly because they are so pulverized. This causes a blood sugar spike, which can cause inflammation. My joints hurt. You never know.

    Congrats on giving up the pop and coffee.

    After doing a cycle of The Shred I have been trying to juice breakfast and dinner. I chose those two meals because I make enough juice for 2 meals at night when I have time to clean the juicer. Then use the rest of the juice for breakfast. I try to have a salad with slow cooker chicken in it or soup for lunch.

    Sounds like you are doing fantastic! Congrats on giving up soda and coffee I know that it can be hard! I don't really drink coffee, but with soda I'll stop for awhile and then when I get home I start back up again because there isn't anything to drink other than soda most of the time which sucks! Good luck reaching your goals! I know you can do this!

    We started doing smoothies after watching Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead back in March. I think I've lost about 8 pounds since then.

    It's a disorganized nutrition challenge for sure. I had set the goal of eating greens every day. The smoothie thing was an accident.

    Congrats on giving up soda. emoticon I know 2 people who lost 40 pounds in a year by giving up soda and not doing ANYTHING else.
