Report Card for 500 Days - Third Quarter-Term

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

This was a very mediocre interval. I did well on mindful eating and healthy eating behaviors. I had some off-track food choices, but mostly kept to my program. Thanks be to God for His mercy!

The big "I" for Incomplete for this term is Nutrition Tracking. Excuse alert.....We've started going camping most weekends and I allowed poor internet service to be an excuse for letting food journaling slide. What, I no longer own a pencil? So it's no surprise that I have not lost any weight. It's simple arithmetic; when I don't track, I don't stay in calorie range.

Exercise has been good. Strength training classes 2 or 3 times per week (depending on camping schedule) plus lots of yard work and extra walks. Most weekends we do a 6 or 7 mile woodland hike over hilly, rough terrain.

This was not an outstanding segment...but I can still graduate if I just keep going and re-focus for the next quarter-term. Starting today, the theme for this quarter-term is "Delight."

For reference, here are the two blogs describing the 500-Day course.

Tracking food is difficult for me. I think it would probably just be easier if I went to a pencil and paper and just focused on total calories.

Some of this stuff just drives me nuts!

Congrats on the 500 days - not bad at all and you're stronger for it!

I had the same thought about tracking this week. But still haven't opened the drawer to pull out the paper and pencil. Needing to do that. Thanks for the reminder.

Delight was the theme of my devotions last night. Here is a little quote: " Delight yourself in the Lord and He will fulfill the desires of your heart. Who gives us our desires when we are submitted to God? God Himself. It was He who gave us the desire to be thin. Your desire is His desire and your delight is in Him." It isn't enough to have our desires in the right place, we need to delight in it. Phil 2:14 "Do all things without grumblings or disputing."

The devotion really spoke to my heart and then reading your blog today gave me delight in knowing that I am on the right path and I have great people to journey with me.

I think you have done well at enjoying life's diversions without getting totally off your path. You already identified the pencil as an answer so you know what you will do next time.

I love delight, that will be a fun topic. Delight in all that you do. Leelanau County is called the "Land of Delight" or "Delight of Life".

    Good to hear your dedication.

I love hearing about your journey. I totally understand about logging when away. it is like I think I can only log and keep up with my journey if I have the internet. It is then I realize I too dependent on technology. A piece of paper and a pencil works well for accountability too.

Keep up the fight. You are doing well!

  • NANCY-
Ah tracking... if you cannot track perhaps you can plan your meals ahead of time?
Where there is a will... (and I know you have the will)
... YOU will find a way.

When I hear "delight" I think of "delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." Hmmm, not delight myself in food? That is a thought I need to ponder.
I'm amazed at your for keeping up with your reports and your focus. You will graduate.
What about having some standard things when you go camping - so you can put it as a food group and log it ahead of time.
I know I struggle with when I am away, so I'm preaching to myself here! emoticon

emoticon for your mindful planning, hikes with your DH and just doing so well!! It really IS a challenge for most of us to do as well as you when not at home. So my hat's emoticon off to YOU! ( hat, huh? )

I am positive you will graduate! emoticon

"Delight" is a great theme: and I'm generally pretty delighted with myself when I track those darn calories IN (even more important than the calories OUT!)
