What Defines You?

Monday, May 20, 2013

I think in my case, I would have to say that my attitude rules my current state of peace. While I know I'm not the most 'patient' person in the world, I have learned to relax and let go. I no longer am led by thoughts of rushing through life to get to a certain point or goal. I know it will come when it is time - and that for some things, like our weight loss goals, it doesn't happen overnight. It takes hard work, determination and persistence.

I loved this quote today:
When we take away everything of matter, what we have left is everything that matters. ~ Keidi Keating

It really speaks to giving attention to the small things in life and appreciating them. I may not have lots of money in my bank account, or fancy clothes. I have older furniture which I'd love to upgrade and re-decorate the house - but those are material things that truly don't matter. What matters most is what I DO have - and that is my health, a great job, two beautiful daughters who are my angels (sometimes with horns emoticon ) and all the necessities I have within me to live a peaceful life. I am grateful for everything that I have - not to say that at times I may not want more, but I have come to realize that they are not that important. I'm no longer going to go into debt to get those things .. and will be patient to save to get them if I really want them.

I did a lot of impulse buying/spending in the past and now I'm working on changing those habits to live an even happier life. I am practicing moderation if you will in this area too - thinking things through and asking myself 'do I really need this now?' and in most cases the answer is NO.

While I do believe in rewarding ourselves - it doesn't always have to involve something that costs money. There are many things we can do that don't ... and those are the things we need to explore more - to discover the beauty of your own surroundings and perhaps uncovering some sights or activities you may not have seen or done in your city.

What defines me today is basically ensuring I am living a peaceful life. It includes the daily practice of meditation and reflection - such as my morning blogs. It gives me the opportunity to set the tone for the day. I challenge you my SP friends, to think about what defines you... Food for thought for the day ... and it's calorie free emoticon

AMEN! To rewards that don't always have to cost money! I don't get an allowance to do my "chores" at home so why do I need to buy myself something after I lose a pound?

I also have to agree 100% about the daughters and horns thing lol! That literally made me laugh because I can relate with my two girls! Great blog!

Such a positive and inspiring blog today; just what I needed! I'm guilty of the "see it/buy it" mindset though I'm working on changing it. I have so much more "stuff" than I can ever use that I'm just overwhelmed at times. Simplify! Simplify! Simplify!

I love your idea of beginning your day in a quiet and reflective way, setting the tone for the day and for your inner spirit. Good job!

Thank you for inspiring me and always for your kindness and support.

I have found that moderation does lead to more peace of mind. I sometimes get frustrated that I can't buy everything I think I 'need'! But when I really think of it - I have all I 'need'!

I think that once we embark on a weight loss/healthy journey, we cannot but reflect and improve other areas as well. All areas of our lives are interconnected!

Your attitude determines your aptitude and I think your attitude has a lot to do with how you deal with any situation. One thing I know for sure is that I am a Child of the Most High God, with whom all things are possible. Things come and things go and what matters most is, like you stated, those things that come without a price tag, my health, strength, love, peace and charity! As my mom always would say, you have to know things for yourself! Every day is a learning opportunity! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
