What Defines You?

I think in my case, I would have to say that my attitude rules my current state of peace. While I know I'm not the most 'patient' person in the world, I have learned to relax and let go. I no longer am led by thoughts of rushing through life to get to a certain point or goal. I know it will come when it is time - and that for some things, like our weight loss goals, it doesn't happen overnight. It takes hard work, determination and persistence.
I loved this quote today:
When we take away everything of matter, what we have left is everything that matters. ~ Keidi Keating
It really speaks to giving attention to the small things in life and appreciating them. I may not have lots of money in my bank account, or fancy clothes. I have older furniture which I'd love to upgrade and re-decorate the house - but those are material things that truly don't matter. What matters most is what I DO have - and that is my health, a great job, two beautiful daughters who are my angels (sometimes with horns
) and all the necessities I have within me to live a peaceful life. I am grateful for everything that I have - not to say that at times I may not want more, but I have come to realize that they are not that important. I'm no longer going to go into debt to get those things .. and will be patient to save to get them if I really want them.
I did a lot of impulse buying/spending in the past and now I'm working on changing those habits to live an even happier life. I am practicing moderation if you will in this area too - thinking things through and asking myself 'do I really need this now?' and in most cases the answer is NO.
While I do believe in rewarding ourselves - it doesn't always have to involve something that costs money. There are many things we can do that don't ... and those are the things we need to explore more - to discover the beauty of your own surroundings and perhaps uncovering some sights or activities you may not have seen or done in your city.
What defines me today is basically ensuring I am living a peaceful life. It includes the daily practice of meditation and reflection - such as my morning blogs. It gives me the opportunity to set the tone for the day. I challenge you my SP friends, to think about what defines you... Food for thought for the day ... and it's calorie free
