A big change in my life...

Sunday, May 19, 2013

So those of you who have been following my blog probably remember me posting about my issues with excessive fatigue. I have been sleepy fatigued for the last year and a half. When I was pregnagnt, I slept all day, usually til 2. I think the rest was good for the baby. Well after the baby was born. I was tired all the time. I would sleep 12 or 13 hours, I would get up and I would still want to go back to bed and back to sleep. I went to the doctor back in September and they told me that my Vitamin D was low. They wanted me to take 50000 IU of it weekly. I was too fearful of that dosage because it required doctor supervision and I can never easily get in touch with my doctor and so I thought NO WAY.

So after a different opinion by another doctor, I was told to take 800 IU. So the process began. I started taking 1000 IU in liquid form, and now I've moved on to 800 IU. Its been several months I've been consistent.

Couple weeks ago I began getting up as usual and its still a process to get me going. I don't really take in any coffee. Usually I require at least one nap in the day and I'm still tired in the evenings but here lately, I've noticed that when I lay my son down for his nap, I don't have any desire to nap with him. I thought it was just a fluke but I've been able to get through the last two weeks without naps and I'm also finding that I'm getting tired now at a more decent hour as well......all naturally. Its so wonderful!

So I'm hoping that my levels are going up finally after consistency and I also hope that with more energy, I can begin to cut back on sugar as a form of fake energy and tackle my weight issue with one less obstacle. This is great news!

Thats how I used to be, before I found out about my thyroid issues. I was exhausted all the husband was like "geez you sleep ALL THE TIME"....I didn't know what was wrong with me. The thyroid meds worked okay, but honestly now that I am off of them I felt better. I know what it is like to be exhausted, it makes it REALLy hard to be motivated to exercise and eat really clean!

I hope you get your energy back soon!

If left to my own devices, I would sleep all day too. Unfortunately, I don't think my fatigue is due to Vitamin D deficiency. I've been taking Vitamin D for years. I take 2000 IU daily in the winter and 1000 IU daily in the summer. I went to the doctor about my fatigue a while back and she ran all sorts of tests and didn't come up with any potential cause, so I just tough it out through the work week and sleep excessively on weekends.

I'm glad you seem to be improving. It will definitely make a big difference in your quality of life.
