Week In Review

Friday, May 17, 2013

DH and I have enjoyed seeing the grandson twice already this week. Wednesday, we took him after school to his favorite indoor play place where the owners have built a new super large Jungle Jim/ Clubhouse for all the kids to enjoy. Our grandson was over the moon at seeing it and played in it for hours. He didn't even miss one of the extra large bounce houses they needed to take way to have space for it. I talked my daughter into meeting us there so she could see her son's reaction to the surprise. She and I talked "nicely" together while my husband played with our grandson and she even showed me a Power Point Presentation on the Titanic that she did for one of her classes. She got a 96.8 on it! She also took the time to tell me that my grandson received an excellent end of the year review from his teachers. As a retired early education teacher and a grandmother to boot I really enjoyed hearing how well he is doing in school. And if all this wasn't enough shock to my system, my daughter even invited her dad and me to attend our grandson's Soccer Banquet on the 2nd. WOW! Now, I know all this "niceness" can and most likely will be short lived when it comes to my daughter but at this stage I will enjoy any break in the "drama" I can get. emoticon After the play place, DH and I took the little man to Applebee's for dinner before returning him home. All in all, it was a good day!

Thursday, the daughter texted us to asked if we could pick up her son again from school and take care of him until bedtime. She was on the way to the ER with a sore throat from hell, no voice and trouble breathing. Turns out she has a severe case of Strep Throat. She had to get a steroid injection in the back of her throat (OUCH!) to take down the swelling and inflammation and was prescribed a course of antibiotics. DH and I took our grandson back to the play place than to a nearby lake for a picnic dinner and to feed the ducks, geese and swans before heading home. I helped with his bath, story time and put him to bed. By this time our daughter had returned home with a very raspy voice but at least she has one now, and told us of her ordeal.

If we haven't been busy this week with the grandson, DH and I have been painting! The kitchen is coming along quite nicely. DH and I have finished the trim throughout the kitchen and laundry room which includes all the crown molding, chair molding, windows and doorways, doors and base boards. We have changed it from a medium country blue to white. It took 3 coats of paint with primer to cover the blue but it was worth the extra work. What a difference a color can make! The windows and doorways all look so much larger now. We are quite happy with it. Next up the wall color which will be "Westminster Gold" from Benjamin Moore. I will upload pictures but not until after the kitchen is complete.

As for today, I'm relaxing. I am a bit tired, not to mention SORE. So I am taking the day off. Tomorrow we will be off to the grandson's soccer game in the morning. Go Cobras! I hope my fellow Sparkies all have a great weekend. Keep Sparking my friends! WE CAN do whatever we set our minds to. emoticon
