Bone to Pick with Spark Trackers

Thursday, May 16, 2013

I've set up mileage goals in the fitness tracker. It doesn't work/calculate properly. It's driving me crazy.

Yesterday I ran 2.25 miles in 30 minutes. That's a 13:20/mile pace. (Which is pretty good for me!)

For the Spark fitness tracker, here are the options:

I can enter the mileage and have it count toward my weekly goal, but then it tells me that it's walking a 15 minute mile and cheats me out of the number of calories burned (I don't put too much stock in that part, but still).*

I can enter running at 13 minutes/mile, but it won't count toward my weekly distance goal.

Am I missing something? Anyone know a way around this?

* I usually go with this method and just track my weekly miles.

    I've tried

I know my distance, so I can input the time and let it calculate my calories. Then I do a manual entry on SP. I don't like the limitations of the SP tracker, either.

I hate having to put my exercise in. With Pilates - it wants to know with what weights - I use a Reformer (there are no weights). I just enter everything else in - and don't pay that much attention at all to calories burned - ever. I walk on the treadmill - same thing - except I can't put it in just as a straight walk - it wants to know how fast - but my workout includes adjusting the incline and the speed. Oh well - perhaps someday.

have you tried on My Fitness Pal? I like their app better in general for nutrition tracking, so I'd imagine they have better fitness options. I only do fitness classes so I can't be for sure that the walking/running options are better, but it's worth a shot!

I don't know the fix, but I would go with the mileage. Since we usually undercalculate our calorie intake, a lower calorie output would balance the two.
