Can I handle it??

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Okay I have no pictures today, I knwo shocking!! haha

This morning we didn't get up. I'm only supposed to do the C25K every other day, and it was raining and I was sore and tired. So we slept in. Eventually I'll get up to more days in a row but for now rest days inbetween are probably a good idea.

Anyways back to the title of this blog, can I handle it??
My friends want to go backcountry camping this weekend. Its a total of 25KM (12.5 in, camp overnight, and 12.5 back) It's hiking not just walking so it'll be intense. Also will be carrying 30lbs on my back!! I think it would be an incredible experience but I'm worried I'll get beyond sore and be completely miserable and embarassed in front of my friends............I don't know what to do. I'm on the fence.

I had greek yogurt and fruit for breakfast today, grapes and coffee in the morning, quinoa and salmon and veggies for lunch, carrots and hummus for an afternoon snack. I've got some healthy food today :)

Will take Buster to the park tonight if the weather holds up. It was raining at 5:30 am but it was sunny when I walked to work at 8 am and it's still sunny now. I'll walk home at lunch and back to work and walk home after work so I'll get my 5K in of walking today :)

Load up your backpack and hike out for a few miles to see how it would feel. That will give you an idea of what will be in store and help you make up your mind. BTW, you're doing great and I love reading your blog!!

Like others have said already, it's up to you, and if they really are your friends, they'll help get you there too. Water, walking stick (if you need one), 30lb bag, good hiking sneakers/boots, Voltaren or A535, Tylenol & Advil, and a good attitude will make sure you get to the campsite. And think of the calories you will burn!!! Justs for giggles, take a look at the Fitness Tracker for "hiking, 20lb+ carrying", and what it burns for ONE hour. 12kms will take 3-4 hrs I suspect, with rests in between. Just don't eat too many S'mores at the campfire, and pick something tastier than hot dogs on a coat hanger to celebrate your journey.

Yeah, I know you can handle this. :-D

    Do it!
    Do it!
    Do it!

But do it for YOU, and don't worry about feeling embarrassed if you're slow or sore or any of that. You WILL be sore. No doubt. Just stretch, stretch, stretch, and bring some arnica to rub your soreness with, and some ibuprofen to ease your bod. Drink tons of water, and be sure to have nutrients in your body too. Small snacks all the way will help you to stay fueled but not full or tired. Of course, you will feel tired. It's OK, just get a pace that works for you, and don't try to keep up or ahead of anyone. Just do it for you!!!

And if you decide you don't want to, for whatever reason, do something else really cool and wonderful for you, because you're awesome!

Hmmm what to do....first of all if you even try it you have succeeded...there is no embarassment or shame if you cannot make it....at least you tried...

    Just my 2 cents...

Keep up the great work... emoticon

You might be a little sore, but it isn't a race, right? And if they are really your friends, they will help you out and cheer you on, not make you feel embarrassed! But that being said, you have to decide if you really want to go and if you think in the end it will be fun, and/or worth the challenge. But I bet you can totally do it!!!!
