Yesterday took the poochies for a short walk and then decided to bike Shelley Lake. On the way there I met a friend and ended up walking the 4 miles to the lake and pushing the bike. I had no idea the stress I was putting on those short muscles in the small of my back. After we parted, I biked another 11 miles to home. Within a few hours I knew that I had blown it.

So, here I am, spending most of my time in bed and always using good body mechanics when I'm up. Having gone the route before, I realize that time will again heal these poor muscles. Here is another good reason to focus on strengthening my core and especially my back, instead of just doing cardio.

PLUS I'm missing work and other activities. Thankful for those who step in for me despite my lack of good common sense. But honestly, it never occurred to me as I balanced the bike that it was my lower back that was holding the balance.

Lesson learned.
Funny, we are studying James in Bible study.........count it all joy!

    I'm so sorry about the back pain, I hope you get better soon!

    There are many good core exercises and stretches here on the SP Fitness,
    they helped me get rid of my mild chronic back pain.
    They may be good for you when you are rested and the acute pain is gone.

    Weight lifting is also a great for strengthening your core.
    I always thought weight lifting is about upper body, but it is mostly about core and legs (eg. deadlifts and squats).

    How interesting to see how the body is connected. At times when working out or doing common chores around the house I am amazed to feel it in places I would not expect.
