This weekend was COMICCON!
I had intended to be Lara Croft (sans cone-boobs), so I was going to dye my hair black. That... didn't really work out:
Yah, so, apparently if you don't leave Punky Monkey (non-permanent hair dye) in long enough, this is the result *sigh*. So instead of Laura Croft, I went as Sonozaki Shion (the "evil" twin) from When they Cry (or When Cicadas Cry). Got a mini skirt out of the deal :)
In other news, excluding last Wednesday when I dyed my hair and needed to rinse fast, I haven't used shampoo in almost a month.
I've been kindof intrigued by the whole "poo-free" idea for a while, and we're coming up on summer -- a time when my hair is nearly never down. Seemed like a good time to try it out. The first couple of weeks it was a bit odd. I think I wasn't using enough vinegar (apple cider vinegar), so my hair had taken on a strange texture. Nobody looking at it realized anything had changed, but brushing it was strange: it was no longer silky, instead it was rough.
The method: I mix baking soda and water (usually about 3 heaping teaspoons in a cup), then rub it into my scalp. After rinsing, I use a little spray-bottle with apple cider vinegar and water (about 1 tablespoon in a quarter-cup) to spray down my hair. Then I rinse like mad. I've found that if I dip my fingers in coconut oil and finger-comb my hair after the first towel-dry, then wrap my hair back up again, my hair is coming closer to it's old texture. We shall see if I like it. Thus far the jury is out. I kindof miss my old silken texture. So if that texture doesn't return after a few more weeks of poolessness, I may return to shampoos.
I am, however, liking having switched my face-cream for an organic, cold-pressed argan oil. More and more my skin has been freaking out, so anything that keeps the zits at bay is good in my books :) So yeah, lots of changes in my beauty regimen. It remains to be seen if any of it will stick. But I'm willing to try.
There are upsides to having hair as long as mine in this case, but also downsides. I have a feeling that having 2 feet of hair might be making it easier not to wash my hair daily (which is bad for it anyway), but it also means that it does tangle a bit more than I'd like.
