Questions about Paleo!

Sunday, May 12, 2013

Okay so I've been kind of looking into Paleo, and I'm wondering if anyone can answer any questions about it. I'm thinking of following it for 30 days, to see how difficult it is, if I like it, and how it makes me feel. My questions...

Has anyone tried it, and how has it worked for you?
How would I count calories and/or enter my foods into the tracker?
Is it really expensive vs just eating "healthier" foods?
Would you recommend it?

I probably have other questions but can't remember them. But I would love to hear what anyone knows about it! Please let me know!

I do a modified paleo. I still cheat occasionally, but no dairy is great for me. Cutting down dairy, beans, and grains gets rid of my bloated belly. Plus its easier to stay in your calories if you're avoiding a lot of extra sugar and stuffing your face with veggies. If you're on Pinterest, there's some great Paleo pins.

It's really not more expensive, but it's DIFFERENT at first. You'll stop buying premade foods and start buying raw foods and learn how to make them. The worst part might be eliminating sugar. I say 'worst' only because the body really might throw a fit over the removal of processed sugars. It won't last long, tho.

I track all my foods just like normal - I just add all my favorite raw stuff to my tracker and track them as I eat them. For instance, my green smoothie is 1 banana, 2 cups baby kale, 1 scoop protein powder, 1 tablespoon wheat grass or greens, 1 teaspoon bee pollen. I added all of those separately, then made a 'grouping'.

My body loves not having grains in the picture. I am paleo/primal about 90% of the time on average, but some weeks (like birthdays), I do have a piece of birthday cake. I've found that the longer I go without having sugars as part of my diet, when I do allow a sugary treat, I get weary/full of it quickly. So, no, I'm not wanting to snarf the entire cake. One piece is plenty.

Check out marksdailyapple.com - that's an excellent place to start.
