We often change, more than we can imagine!

Humankind isn't static. Thank GOD!

We change, often, throughout our lives. We can drive this change in a positive direction, let us be dragged along by negativity and stress, or pretend it's not happening and just exist.

We always change.

Here at Sparkpeople, I'm learning, slowly but surely, how to direct those changes in way that is resulting in a healthier me. A better example for my children.

I wish it was faster. It feels like such an excruciatingly slow process. Right now, I'm almost on cruise control, and I've found myself falling back on habits that I haven't had in over a year, and I'm not sure why.

But I'm not letting that get me down. I know I'm capable of doing this. I HAVE been doing this.

I just hope you guys will walk with me. :) I didn't think I needed help, but I do! Lord, I do. I don't get any support from home, so I have to reach to my virtual friends.

I appreciate you all.

Come, change with me. The future is exciting, and we can get there together!

    I know this is an old blog, but hang in there. I'm 43. My mom was 57 ( now 70 and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.). I was on spark since 2008, actually trying for months at a time along in there. Keep on believing!

    Changing for changing sake is not always productive. Make sure the changes you make are to the positive and necessary. We will automatically change in life without even realizing it, both to the negative and the positive. It's the awareness of where we are that is important. Without knowing who we are or where we are, how do we know we need to change or what direction to change too? Even then, if the changes are slow and small, it gives a person time to figure out if it is in the right direction and to readjust accordingly.

    As you know I am a Taijiquan player, Chi Runner, Chi Walker, Qigong practitioner, and also have begun to explore Bagua. Each of these are about gradual progress. I had a friend who under took to learn a Yang long form in Tai Chi and within several months informed me he had learned the whole long form.

    Man, I was on the first third of the first third. As we talked I realized we were learning something different. This does not say that mine was better, just that mine fit my personal goals better. I am now working on several details of movement and integration in my "Tree Standing Qigong". Most would not even notice the difference if they watched me before and after. However, the difference are sneaking into my taijiquan, my other qigong, my walking, my running and my day to day activities. Never worry about the pace of change (unless it is too fast, as that tends to unbalance things.)

    Small changes tend to last longer as long as we keep doing them. The quick changes are often rejected by our bodies and/or our minds, which is what lends to many people giving up. But choosing to make small changes and keep doing them will turn them into habits.

    As for why you're going back to old habits, it could be from stress or from the influence of others. There's always the hazzard of a sight/smell/sound/taste reminding us of a cherished memory which then turn back on old habits. Such as, if a beloved grandmother always had a certain meal she prepared or childhood best friend played a certain song over and over again while chowing on sweets, when we smell the meal or hear the song it's a pavlovian response for us to want a food or do an activity that we thought we had given up.
