Healthy Dashboard Dining!

Saturday, May 11, 2013

Whenever we go on holiday, the time that I always get into trouble is on the drive home. Maybe I think of it as a last hurrah before we get back to real life? Anyway, we walked for over two hours on the beach so definitely got in our exercise for the day.

Breakfast was coffee w/ Silk, clementines, a hemp bagel w/ Tofutti cream cheese, avocado, Daiya "swiss", tempeh bacon and some blood orange juice.

Then we had one of these, just because this was a treat me and Garry used to love. Haven't had one in 10 years and honestly, it was rather anticlimactic. Meh.

Then before getting on the road I got myself a big glass of juice of apples, celery, pineapple, cucumber. Lovely!

A couple of hours later, I go from fresh juice to COFFEE with Silk creamer, and this little jewel: a raw coconut macaroon from the juice bar.

Made a huge wrap before leaving the hotel, got the stuff for it from the local Whole Foods and got the veggies in it from their salad bar. It's a sprouted grain wrap w/ Field Roast slices, vegan cheese and cream cheese, lettuce, spinach, carrots, peppers and onions. Had this as 2 servings. And by the way, as long as you're smart about it and don't leave it there for hours, food heats up nicely on the dashboard on a warm day! Again, let me reiterate, I'm talking 10 minutes, not hours!

And then along the way we had some lovely unsalted almonds and a couple of whole wheat raspberry fig bars.

So I finally broke the spell of going off the dietary rails on the 6-hour drive home. I had a plan, didn't give in to impulse eating [but still dined like a queen], and feel that this was my healthiest trip ever. I had enough treats to make it seem like a holiday, but I'm still feeling good about everything.
And this guy with me, my Garry, completely supportive of all my wacky ideas, bless him!

This is a great blog! It gives me so much encouragement, that with a plan, one can eat healthy while on the road. The reason I say this is because my granddaughter wants me to take her on a healthy road trip. Define by her as we can only eat healthy food on the trip.

You make the drive to and from the beach as much fun as the beach itself.
