2013 Hippie Chick Race Report

I did it! I finished my Quarter Marathon today and I'm super proud of it. :) I've written up a race report here, in case you want to read it:


The only thing that sucks is that I'm suffering now because of something I ate. I'm Celiac and have to avoid Gluten. So what were the race organizers serving the runners after the race? A pancake breakfast. *sigh* I ate a banana, and then mentioned to one of the organizers that it would be nice to have some sort of GF option that had protein in it as well. She agreed... and then suggested we look at the Luna Bars that were donated and see if they were GF. Yes, they had the Luna Protein Cookie Dough bars, and they were labeled GF. So I ate one.

Now I'm paying for it.

Even though it says it's GF, I don't know if it's 100% GF or just "within acceptable FDA guidelines to be labeled GF". I also don't know if perhaps it's another ingredient (or more) that my body doesn't tolerate. All I know is that I'm gassy, bloated, farting up a storm, and in general I feel awful. I haven't eaten one of these bars in a LONG time, and it looks like I won't be eating them ever again. I'll just stick with Kind Bars from now on... they have ingredients you can pronounce and recognize on sight. :)

    Race Rule No 1 -- always stick with what works for you as race day is not the day to try new things. Sorry you have a bad stomach after such a great race. I have had similar experiences with races but with labels not containing something I am allergic to.....

    But high five sister, you had a great race and hopefully an even better one next time
