Free Health Care - Maybe you get what you pay for!!!

Friday, May 10, 2013

Well, the good news is it's only 10am, and I have already been to the hospital and had my ultrasound done, had breakfast, and walked Buddy almost 3000 steps already.

The bad news is, I still can't get blood results back because I don't have a doctor. But, I went to diabetic education centre again and got same frustrating news, but this time at least they signed me up for a class without my having a dr. Then I stopped at admitting, where I had been told to register prior to ultrasound because with not having a dr., I would have to see the out-patients doc to get results. But triage nurse told me the dr. isn't in till after lunch and how long will it take anyway to read the test so that's "retarded" (her words not mine) but right on the mark with what I have seen of this health care system. I asked at admitting when I was leaving if I could get a print out of my blood results and they sent me to Medical Records, where again I go through my spiel of no dr. and I want to at least stay a bit pro-active and get my A1C at least. Sure, for $69 they could do that. It just gets worse and worse, what if someone was really sick, can you even imagine?

So, went to the city and got my DL traded over - finally...lucky I was never stopped.. but they pointed out to me the last thing on my license was a speeding ticket --- back in 1992!!!! Then after a long wait there, I went and sat and waited almost 2 hours at the walk-in clinic. The good thing was it was the same dr. I saw in North Sydney, but they don't have any docs there either. She did tell me she empathizes and docs had signed a letter and sent to admin about people with chronic conditions not having a dr. - not being able to get health care either, but ER dr's are not allowed to refer you to the Diabetic education centres either..... what a situation..... Anyway, she did me printout of my last bloodwork and my A1C is still 7.3 but there are fatty deposits on my liver. She says I need to change my diet, which I think if pretty good, but in reflecting on it, I bet the smoked meats and ice cream are the real killers.....surprise, surprise..

Well, busy but productive day, but ony 5590 steps is what the pedometer I borowed from the library shows.... tired though, right, cuz I woke at 6am, and then all this.......

How frustrating. Hopefully they can assist you in getting a doctor. With a chronic condition you should have one, well, everyone should have a doctor. Good luck!
    Buddy is a cutie!

Sounds frustrating - did anyone at the hospital have a suggestion for HOW to get a doctor?

It sounds as if you and Buddy are becoming great friends! Dog walking/playing is such a great way to get exercise. Mini Frisbees might be fun for both of you!

    Hang in there, Lila. emoticon

Hope you find a Dr. soon. I do appreciate our health coverage here, but I know with Dr. shortages it makes it difficult to get the care you need.

Have you called Dr's offices and let them know you have a chronic condition and that you need care?

Hope things work out on that front.

Seems like you and buddy are having some great walks. Keep it up.

    Take care,
