13 Minutes to Really Look Good

Thursday, May 09, 2013

(the title is half-jokingly; certainly not out of vanity or arrogance) :)

I'm not a frilly princess and never have been. I grew up on a farm with my brother and two male cousins being my closest companions. I have no use for artificial anything. Even now, I just finished another shift working with "the guys" as a Millwright (industrial mechanic). I had an issue this week over a particular t-shirt that I wore - it was a little too feminine (low cut). :p I've been asked to try a little harder to blend in. :p LOL OK, so I bought two new t-shirts and a cotton work shirt and spent the day yesterday wearing work-issued coveralls that were about two sizes too big for me. Safety is priority, I understand. Blending in is necessary at times, it's true, but every once in a while, it's nice to celebrate our differences, as well. I worked with one lady who admitted that the only thing feminine about her was her fingernails. She'd get fancy fake finger nails done every week or two. OK, so I admit it, she's inspired me! LOL (and my work really does a number on my nails!) ;p

This morning, I put on a new coat of nail polish - as if I have time to wait for it to dry - and went for a walk! What better thing to do while I wait for it to dry, undisturbed?! 13 minutes later, I'm back to tell you all of my idea and then I'll put on a second coat! and go for another walk! :D I'm wearing slip-on shoes, which I know aren't the greatest, but for this, they're working out perfectly! :D

In a way, I'm kind of forcing myself to get some walking done! That is far more important than any manicure will ever be! :D

"blending in" was never one of my traits.....I do like the way you are drying your nails....when it stops raining I am going to give it a try. Hope your day/night goes well... emoticon

That is a really good multi-task! Double the results (pretty nails and a good walk) is definitely the way to go. Thanks for the inspiration!

Awesome!! I love that you're finding excuses to walk. But I keep thinking if I had a job as physical as yours, a walk would be the last thing on my mind. LOL

I'm not a bit girly either. It takes me maybe 10 minutes to get ready for work in the morning (and I'm office manager/reception). Throw on the clothes, a touch of makeup, tame the hair and out the door. I spend WAY more time playing with the puppy in the morning. LOL

Have a great day, my friend!

Cheers to those fancy nails of yours and to "blending" as well.

My DIL used to work in the prison system, and you should see the dress code for women prison employees. Only plain stud earrings, no make up, hair pulled back, only clear lipstick, no fake nails or nail polish, fully covered, plain clothing, flat shoes. It made it easy in the morning, but everyone looked pretty awful, which was the idea.
