How do you push yourself?

So, I've been thinking about this for awhile now and I can't figure it out...

I've been getting in better shape over the last year or so and I'm very grateful for it. But I don't ever really push myself past my comfort level, and I've noticed my daughter does the same thing.

For example, I had a decent cardio day today, but I know I could have pushed myself a lot more... I completed my Cardio X DVD, part of the P90 program. The whole entire thing, finally! BUT........ I don't like to get too out of breath. I don't like to be too uncomfortable... I don't like my body to ache too very much the next day.

I can't help but wonder, what if I could make myself be comfortable with these things? How much better could I become? How much more quickly would the results come that I am seeking? I see people who can push, and I am envious of them. I want to be able to do it to, but how? I haven't quite figured it out yet, but hopefully I will!
