Effient v/s Plavix I'm looking for feedback please?

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

Long story painfully short....My man needs this sorta med to keep the stent clean and clear of clots, etc....Effient is $260+ a month.... Plavix can be $50.00.....with the other 5 meds he needs for how ever long....its kickin $400 a month, and he has no insurance....

I can't get him on insurance at me main job, and, me 2nd job will help, but.....

If he can go with the plavix...it would be a rel help...

he IS seeing his Dr next Tuesday for a follow up to the event...and WILL be talking in depth with him about this....I've looked online fer info on one v/s the other...and of course, it all depends on the source as to which is better.

SO, I'm looking for feedback from me Spark Fam....either having used it yourself, or a family member, friend....to see what the "general" feel is...

Thanks all....

Effient is a relatively new drug. It is being used in the hospital where I work, but with all new medications that come out on the market, it is more expensive. The reason they are looking for a replacement for Plavix is because some people have a reaction to Plavix where the body rejects the stent. Hard to know if you will have that problem unless you have genetic testing. So, they developed effient or prasugel.
Hopefully as time goes on it will become less expensive. When you talk to your doctor and express your concerns about cost, he may still recommend effient, but may give you Plavix due to cost. Hope this is helpful. I am an RN and work in a cardiac unit.
