Wearing a Dress, and why they are always ignored in my closet

Monday, May 06, 2013

I’ve got a confession to make. I secretly LOVE dresses and skirts. I have a whole bunch of them. Sundresses, and floral skirts, pleated skirts, business dresses, pencil skirts, skirts with awesome snaps on them, a dress I call my Star Trek dress, skirts with elastic that can be a dress OR a skirt, skirts and dresses that I fell in love with at the store and just HAD to have. I love them.

And I rarely ever wear them.

Unless it’s a ‘special’ day, or I’m dressing up on purpose, I wear jeans at home and slacks at work. With t-shirts, or work shirts (blouses/nicer shirts/sweaters). Some of my dresses still have the tags on them.

Why? Is it more comfortable? Eh. About the same. Though I always am more concerned about getting my dresses dirty than my black slacks. Is it more work? Oh yes. If I’m wearing a dress at work, I’m wearing nylons. Which means I’ve stopped being lazy and have shaved my legs. Shaved legs too, for a skirt, even if I’m not wearing tights. But that’s the only real ‘time consuming’ thing that comes from a dress or skirt.

Am I just lazy then? Is that all that’s keeping me from ‘dressing up’?

Well, no, I don’t think so.

I judge myself harder, when I’m wearing a dress or a skirt.

Am I having a fat day? Does this make me look lumpy? Whatever. Throw pants and a shirt and forget about it. But if it’s a dress? I look at myself from every angle and if I don’t like what I see… I run and change into a shirt and pants. And if I DO go to work anyway in the dress? I tend to think about it constantly.

Is it because the dress/skirt is more feminine? And I WANT to look nice in it? And pants and a shirt are so normal that I don’t even really worry how it looks? (Even when it looks NICE too)

And I’ve got dresses and skirts bought at such DIFFERENT weights too. I’ve got ones bought and worn (once) at my lowest around 150, and I’ve got dresses I bought a few months ago when I was about 8-ish pounds heavier. I’m wearing one of those today.

So, I think, especially now that the weather is getting so nice (indeed, I got a sunburn over the weekend) that’s going to be one of my new goals. Wear a dress or skirt at least once a week.

About half the shirts I own and nearly all my jeans have the same effect on me. (Despite my being a guy) I don't feel comfortable wearing them.

I have started wearing skirts again , I am sure I make more effort with my general appearance in a skirt, it's so easy to pull on pants and a top but I never feel smart in them, I have one dress which I love but am saving it for a special occasion,! Why! I do not know. Everything is so casual now . But I am making an effort to smarten up and feel good about myself . You wear what you feel happiest in, Irene emoticon
