CEC update

Sunday, May 05, 2013

So yesterday I posted that my family was going to do a challenge for this week. My husband and I sat down and worked on it and we decided to start with 5 days. We were both exhausted and don't want to over reach and get burned out so we're trying this and seeing how it goes.

This is what we came up with for this week.

I went and did the shopping this morning since my sons step mom offered to take him a little early today so I could get shopping and running done before the weather does crazy things. That relationship is a whole different blog but can I just say I love her and I don't know how I'd get through some days without her help.

For these 5 days I spend about $80 in groceries. Which I had a hard time dealing with as I grudgingly paid for them and carried my bags to my car. I honestly thought about it the whole way home. It just seemed like a lot for 5 days. So I jumped on the computer and calculated it all up because I was quite curious. For 15 meals (not including the left overs I am sure we will have) it was just over $5 a meal. Which calculates to about 1.75 a person per meal! Doesn't seem so bad when I see it put that way!

Before I started this journey I had a lot of excuses of why I couldn't do it. One was being too busy for fitness. Another was that we're a low income family and eating healthy seemed too expensive. It isn't cheap but looking at this way I am realizing it's going to be a lot cheaper than eating out or the cost of health care down the road because we pumped our bodies full of junk.

I'll update during the week and let you know how it's going.

I totally get you on the food budgeting. Seems like the cost of everything is on the rise. Good luck with the family challenge! Have fun and rock on! emoticon
