April Goals Review & May Goals

Sunday, May 05, 2013

First, to update you on my knee, I talked to my PCP about it and she said that I should R.I.C.E. it and if it’s not better in a few weeks to call my orthopedic doctor. I’ve done a lot of looking up what the problem with my knee could be. I feel pretty certain now that I’ve either torn the meniscus (cartilage) under the knee that acts as a shock absorber or I’ve torn my ACL (ligament that runs diagonally under the knee). A knee meniscus tear happens in 1 out of 200 people each year and an ACL tear happens in 1 out of 200,000 people each year. So, they are both pretty common. It’s only been 7 ½ months since I broke my other leg. Right now I feel like the Universe is working against me! I’m mad about the whole thing but I can’t go back and change what happened. All that I can do is move forward as best I can.

Review of April Goals
Exercise –My goal this month is to finish the Lean Phase of CLX. We have a heavy bag so I want to do some kickboxing this month. I also want to start doing Brazil Butt Lift after finishing the Lean Phase of CLX. It's good cardio and muscle toning / strengthening. I want to start and finish the 4 week program.

emoticon I did finish CLX (Chalene Extreme) and was on my 2nd week of Brazil Butt Lift when my knew went in the opposite direction it was suppose to. So, Brazil Butt Lift will have to wait until my knee is healed.

Again I want to continue trying to increase the number of standard push-ups and tricep push-ups on my toes.

emoticon I'm not able to very many of either but I am able to do a few.

Continue trying to increase the amount of weight I'm lifting. I want to try to increase by 1 pound once this month for each of the CLX exercises. I also want to really focus on my form, making sure I am doing my exercises correctly to get the full benefit of what I’m doing and to prevent injury.

emoticon I was able to increase by at least 1 lb and in some cases 2 or more.

Pictures – I’m not sure if I’ll take pictures after finishing the Lean Phase or not. If I don’t feel like I’ve gotten anywhere with losing weight then I will not.

emoticon I didn't take pics. I honestly just didn't think of it.

Water - Get in at least 6 (8 oz) glasses of water every day.

emoticon Didn't happen; I think I got around 40 oz in most days and 48 on others. So, not entirely bad.

Food – My aim is to keep my carbs to 50 – 100 grams each day. I also would like to aim for at least 3 – 4 meals per week that do not contain meat.

emoticon The carbs I have under control but I didn't get 3 - 4 meatless meals in per week like I wanted.

Freggies – Continue to get in at least 3 to 4 servings of freggies each day but work on getting in 5.

emoticon I was able to get in 3 - 4 every day and sometimes 5.

Sleep - Continue trying to get in at least 8 hours of sleep to help get rid of the dark circles under my eyes.

emoticon Since my doctor has changed many of my med's around and started me on a new one I've been sleeping much better and rarely have times that I don't get at least 7 hours of sleep in. emoticon

Meditate - Meditate each night or at least 3 to 4 nights out of 7 nights per week before going to sleep. Doing this helps me to stop focusing on work and everything else. It helps me to clear my mind as well as relax me. I’m able to sleep better when I do.

emoticon I've been so tired most nights when I go to bed that I haven't been meditating. Something I would like to work on though.

Fun - Take time to do something other than work and working on the house. All work and no play makes for a not very nice Cathy. I need to allow myself to have some fun! Ideally, I’d like to take a couple of days per week to de-stress. I want to take one day to play video games and / or watch a couple of movies.

emoticon The weekend before last we rented some movies from a RedBox for the first time in a very long time. One of the discs was scratched like someone had used a Brillo pad on it so it was unplayable. We were refunded the money and given a couple of discount codes to rent a few more. The other movie we were able to watch. The Hobbit was a good movie and it was really nice to do something other than working on our company every day.

May Goals

Exercise – Well, I’ll have to be creative about my exercising since I can’t use my left leg unless I have to. The only thing I can of to do is do some exercise videos from SP or elsewhere to exercise my arms and core. My right leg will be getting plenty of exercise doing all of the support of my body. I also plan on hitting the heavy bag for cardio. I’m really not happy about this whole knee situation but like I said, all that I can do is move forward as best I can.

Water – Because of some of my medical conditions I have to be careful to not drink too much water. My goal for this month is to get in at least 40 oz of water by shoot for 48 oz.

Food – I’ve been doing well with my food and want to continue keeping my carbs below 100 grams each day. I want to get more variety of veggies in my diet this summer and aim to get 3 – 4 meals that are meatless in.

Freggies – I was having an apple every day for a snack but for some reason my stomach recently decided that it doesn’t like Fuji apples. That is primarily the only apples they’ve been carrying at our little local grocery store and Wal-mart. I would like to try to eat an apple a day again for a snack but I’ll have to see what apples I can get and if my stomach will like them or not. Anyway, besides that my goal is to get 3 – 5 servings of freggies a day in.

Sleep – I’ve been doing really well to get in 7 to 8 hours of sleep in most nights and am feeling better as a result. The dark circles and bags are slowly going away too. So, my goal is to continue the trend of getting in 7 – 8 hours of sleep in.

Meditate – Meditating before I go to sleep when I am feeling anxious or have a lot on my mind helps a lot. I am aiming to get in at least 2 nights a week of meditating this month. Most nights I go to sleep without any problems.

Fun – I really need to let myself have some fun and take a break from the same routine day in and day out. I would like to get in one day minimum to watch a movie, playing chess, go back to learning French, or anything else. We did this last week and it was a really nice break from our daily routine of working on the business. I’d also like to plant some flowers that I know the deer and rabbits don’t like. I love gardening but haven’t done any since we moved here 7 years ago.

I hope your knee heals on its own. If not though make sure you get it taken care of, knee pain is no fun to live with.

These sound like great and manageable goals.

I'm so sorry that your knee is still causing you problems. Don't push it - take the time it needs to heal so you won't be dealing with it later.
I've been going full steam the past week or so since my mom's accident and finally took today for a "me day" of rest and relaxation - boy, we really need those - today proved it to me! I like the way you are including that in your goals.
