I'm working on the grocery shopping today. And I bought MUSHROOMS! Portabello mushroom caps, to be precise. I haven't tried them, yet. But I bought them! I've seen some recipes and pictures where they have been used in place of hamburgers, so I'm going to try it. Please, do NOT suggest turkey burgers. I have tried them. They are disgusting. And no, it wasn't the brand (I tried about 4). Ground turkey is just nasty. I have adapted to turkey hotdogs, however.

And I also got turkey sausage instead of brats. For what it costs, it BETTER TASTE GOOD!! I don't care what anyone says, healthy food is not always possible on a budget! Eg-canned pasta: 2.5 servings/can 79cents. Canned fruit in heavy syrup: 2.5 servings 99 cents. Whole weat pasta:2.49/8oz box. Salad mix 2.99/6 cup bag. Apples (any kind I can eat without being sick from texture) 2.49 PER POUND? AND UP! Celery: 1.49 per bag (about 3 decent servings if you don't care for the center bitter parts) mushrooms 1.00 per serving, regular meats $3 and less per pound (4-5 servings)

So, it's not just ME. The math proves it. And oh my God, do not even TALK to me about organics!! If I had that kind of extra money- I wouldn't be on a budget!!!

Anyway. I logged my breakfast (ouch. 600 calories for a sausage sandwich and a bottle of starts at ten bucks). Deciding what I want for lunch. And heading out for more shopping.

This is getting counted as exercise. Lifting, lugging, walking. Yep. I'm counting it as exercise.

I hope you enjoy your mushrooms!

Turkey burgers, Eh. I say eat what you like, just watch your portions. That's what I do. I'd rather eat a half a real cheeseburger and a salad than a whole big something that doesn't taste good to me. Ya know?

And I know you are right! There are tons of things that are unhealthy that are super cheap, and healthy stuff is $$$$. It's annoying!! My biggest pet peeve is why are fresh herbs that grown insanely fast like weeds SO EXPENSIVE??? There is no reason for thyme to cost that much, it pretty much grows itself. If you have dirt. If you're in an apartment you're SOL. bah. I'm going to grow some herbs when I get a house, that's my #1 plan.

Hope you had a good session of lugging! Hehehe!

I use a portobello mushroom cap in place of meat in my "hamburger" and it is my favorite meal ever. It does have a tendency to slide off the bun, but I use toothpicks (like the diners of old) to hold the halves in place. Put it on a whole-wheat high-fiber bun with spinach, a tomato and some honey mustard and you might think you've done to heaven!
