... NOT!

* I posted this at about 8:30 on the Fifty States Half Marathon Members Only Facebook page:

I don't believe this. At this moment, I ought to be finishing up about mile 10.5 in Frederick. But instead, I woke up at 6:30! 45 miles away! For a 7:00 race! Sht sht sht sht sht. What is wrong with that damned alarm clock of mine?

I have been told it happens to everyone that they miss a race from stupidity.

That's two missed races in a row, two in a month I have skipped. Hollywood Half, but that was because of a death in the family and it would have been unseemly for me to run that one. Frowned upon in fact. Bad form.

But Frederick. Arrrrrggggghhhh! I over-freakin'-slept.

Hope everyone else had fun.

Oh look! Here come mile 11.

I cannot believe it! I should be coming up on mile 12 in the Frederick Half Marathon right now. But I woke ever so gently and naturally at 6:30 ... 45 miles away ... for a 7:00 race!!!!!

I think my exact words were, "Sht sht sht sht." followed by some actual real swearing.

Keeping it in perspective. This is a true First World problem.

* My brother in New Mexico commented that I should just drive carefully to which I responded:

Dave Nohe, it cannot have happened. Here's what today's timeline would have looked like:

6:30 -- Wake up. Pee. Get dressed
6:45 -- Grab breakfast on the go and pull out of the driveway
7:00 -- Race starts in Frederick
7:30 -- Get to Patrick Street exit
7:45 -- Park illegally, Run to start line
7:50 -- Beg, wheedle, plea, cry like a little girl to the race marshals
8:00 -- Throw a hissy fit.
8:10 -- Arrive at Frederick County jail
8:15 -- First finisher complete the race
9:30 -- Booked for disorderly conduct

I think bagging it was the right call.

* At 9:00 I got dressed and went to 9:15 Mass and was thankful for the fact that I *can* run a half marathon, that I was able to wake up this morning at all, and that it's a beautiful day to run a half marathon ... or not.
