Thought and Prayer for Sunday, May 5, 2013

Sunday, May 05, 2013

When something is so soiled and dingy, we sometimes want to get rid of it because we don’t feel like it’s worth our time and money to clean it but it’s hard to get rid of it due to the sentimental value and the feelings we have about it. There are parts of our lives like that. They are soiled. They are dirty. They need some thorough cleaning in order for them to be new again. God can handle that. He won’t get rid of us because of our past but He does want us to turn to Him to be made new again. Only He can purify us to be worthy to worship Him.

Genesis 35:2 “So Jacob told everyone in his household, ‘Get rid of all your pagan idols, purify yourselves, and put on clean clothing.’” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we know there are things in our lives that we have done and may still be doing that disappoints You. We know there are things in our lives that we have done and may still be doing that has made us unclean. The idols we worship keep us dirty and unable to fully worship You. Please remind us today before we go to these idols to come to You, to request to be purified and to allow You to make us clean again. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Cleaning is only temporary. We all get dirty again with the things of the world. The key is to go to God daily and ask Him to keep us clean.

When we put the things of the world first in our lives, our lives will become as dirty as the things of the world.

Satan wants us to remain in filth and do what is wrong. Let’s not let him win today.

If there is a part of our lives where we are doing wrong, we aren’t fully clean and can’t worship or obey God as He wants us to.

Ezekiel 36:25-27 “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.” (NLT)

Only God can see what we are doing wrong that He needs to cleanse. That is why we need to go to Him daily to repent of our sins and ask Him to cleanse us.

Psalm 19:12 “How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults.” (NLT)
