Friday ponderings

Friday, May 03, 2013

First Friday in May. This is Derby weekend for Kentucky. I don't go in for all the festivities but I do like the race and if I remember I watch. A good people watching time.
Yesterday we got the recumbent exercise bike and set it up. Yesterday I managed two five minute sessions. Today I've done three sessions 7, 10 and 13 minutes each. I have to say this I never thought I'd feel the results in my abs. I feel like I've been doing sit-ups which I don't do because of my inability to get back up off the floor. Besides really hurts my neck (pinched nerve).
This morning I felt it in my hips and thighs and now my abs. Amazing. Never would have believed it. Maybe it's just because I'm so out of shape. Anyone else noticed this?
Thoughts on my monthly goals. Well, I'm going to continue to walk my dog because she expects it and we both love it. Then, there's the exercise bike and I'm wanting to build up to 30 minutes at a time. Right now 13 minutes is my max before I start hurting so I'll take whatever I can get at this point. I want to add my Walk Away the Pounds with Leslie Sansone videos back in. That'll shake things up some. I think I'll just do the 15 minute one mile walk until I get accustomed to things again. Then there's the ST which I have not been doing. I need to work that back in but I hate doing it. I seriously hate ST.
I have 35 days until I'm gone on vacation. I want to feel so much better and lose weight. Hoping this amped up fitness will kick start a loss cycle again. While I'm on vacation I'll try out my brother's new recumbent elliptical - that should be interesting. Of course there will be lots of walking, hopefully some hiking involved in vacation. So that will continue to be good.
I revised my nutritional goals and fitness goals last week so that started me on a downward trend. Hoping to keep it up. Another thing I'm changing is my official weigh in day - it's Friday currently but since my appointment calendar where I log my info in starts on Monday, I'm changing it to Mondays. That should prove interesting.
When I'm at my brother's we're planning on trying new recipes and get him into healthier eating habits. He's seriously in a food rut major time. Ugh! We have the same three meals all the bloody time. He's very stubborn about changing them too. However, Bobby Deen's show is changing his mind - thank you Bobby! He's wanting to try new things. I told him I was holding him to it too. My brother called to say he might stop by tomorrow on his way to St. Louis. He's picking up a friend and taking her home with him until next month when he goes back to St. Louis and swings back by here to pick me up.
We've got a cold front moving through and it's been raining since late yesterday, heavy at times. Boy the temperatures have dropped today too. So I've just been doing laundry, riding my bike and watching/listening to TED Talks Head Games on Netflix - some interesting thoughts on the mind and our actions. Also catching up on Spark and Facebook too.
Well, enough of my ramblings. Just remember WE ARE ALL ON THIS JOURNEY TOGETHER. We may be at different stages of the journey but we are here together supporting and encouraging each other. Whatever your reason for being here is our goals are similar. Visit each others pages and learn how others have made their journeys. There are some really good inspirational and motivational pages out here. Check out the blogs - a lot of good information there too. Make new friends too. They make the journey so much more interesting. Share your trials and triumphs by blogging. Make new goals or revise your old ones as your needs change. Celebrate the changes no matter how small - they are still changes. Love yourself NOW not tomorrow - tomorrows aren't guaranteed. Sending you love and hugs! emoticon

A recumbant bike!!! That should be easier to handle longer periods of time on. Let us know what you think of it after you have been using it awhile. Enjoy!

Sounds to me like you have a great plan and I think you will do well. I really like the Leslie Sansone videos, I use the one mile on youtube. I cannot seem to get the hang of the bikes though. Maybe your brothers friend can talk him into some new meal ideas.

You are getting back on the active wagon. That new bike is a big plus. I am sure you
will lose inches and be more toned in the next 35 days. As for the cooking, keep on
him and show him a few simple tips to make it easier. He may surprise you!

Great job on your bike riding! I could see how you would feel it in your abs because when you pedal you are bringing your knees up a bit toward your chest, esp. on a recumbent bike.

Yay! Wonderful blog! Keep going, as you can do it--we will do it!

    Enjoy your vacation.

And yes, I will be attending a derby party tomorrow! For all those who have never been to a derby party, you should try one--lots of food and festivities and the pre race fun on TV. Then finally, the race! We Kentucky folk throw a derby party no matter what state we are in--and all the Kentucky transfers (now in Cali) come to it. Happy Days.
