April definitely had a rocky start, and I'm not just blaming the Easter candy. There was some family drama, the gist of it being that my brother (the one who just returned from Afghanistan) told me I'm dead to him ... for the second time. I said a decent person should never say something like that, and he said I "needed to hear it." Consequently we are not on speaking terms, and I think that stress encouraged poor choices like eating too much junk and doing too little exercise. By now I have had enough time to emotionally distance myself from it, refocus, and come back kicking.

Also a sparkfriend and I - hello Pink! - came up with a May challenge in which we will compete to see who can out-blog and out-exercise the other. School is ending, and shorts season is beginning. I think May holds lots of promise!


I tracked my food every day this month, but I upped the ante. Before I would write down the calories on paper rather than tracking each food into a calculator. I have started tracking online, and it shows me my macronutrient ratios, cholesterol intake, sodium intake, etc, which leads to me being more aware of my eating choices.

The beginning of the month was rough, so I only stayed within my range 13/30 days. I will do better this month!

Also, I found a SP article that gives guidelines for sugar consumption. 1200 calories means roughtly 21 grams sugar limit; 1800 calories means roughly 31 grams sugar limit. Now I know I consume way too much!


This month I logged in 1230 fitness minutes, which is much lower than usual. I was slacking! But at least I reinstated strength training. I was shooting for two sessions a week, 8 for the month. I did four strength training sessions, which wasn't quite my goal but still an improvement.


The scale has been pretty erratic, but I think the larger trend is maintenance. I took my measurements this month. I had only half-inch gains and no losses, but I met my goal of measuring myself at least once this month so I could stay accountable.

emoticon Wrote 8 blogs, which is much better than recent months!

emoticon This month I read The Red Badge of Courage, Argo, Patriotism, The Great Gatsby, and Peter Pan. I am still on track of my goal to read one book per week this year!


emoticon Write at least 12 blogs, including 1 Orient Express blog.

emoticon Write 3 chapters or 10 pages in the novel, assuming I can buy a new computer this month.

emoticon Aim for 8-12 sessions of strength training.

emoticon Aim for at least 16 sessions of cardio.

emoticon Earn 2,000 fitness minutes! It has been ages.

emoticon Continue to work towards the "no visible clutter" goal for my bedroom and bathroom, which are both in shameful condition! ;)

emoticon Develop a summer reading program because it was a lots of fun last year!

emoticon I hesitate to write this one since the weight comes off at its own speed and own time, but I'm aiming for a three-pound loss this month just in time for summer.

    2000 fitness minutes, YIKES! I've never had that many but I can't just sit by & let you beat me. I've got to get crackin'.

    Sorry about your brother. Why do they have to be so dumb? I'm hoping that he is still in that immature stage. Years from now he'll probably look back on it & be ashamed for how he treated you.
