A Beautiful May Day

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

Typically I am an evening exerciser, but as a part of the fitness challenge, there was a 6 am urban trail walk/run planned. I had promised myself that I would at least try all of the scheduled activities before making a schedule to stick to for the remainder of the challenge. Therefore this morning, I was up at 5:30 to throw on my workout clothes and be ready to head out as soon as my friend got to my house at 5:45. The trail runs very conveniently right around the block that I live on, so we walked up to the school which was the scheduled meeting place. It was a little chilly to start the morning, but the fresh air felt nice. We took the dog with us. She probably thought it was the best day of her life with visitors and a run all before 7 am. I also met the mayor for the first time, looking like a mess because I literally rolled out of bed and threw on capris, but I guess that's not a bad thing. My friend and I decided to follow our running training schedule instead of walking with the rest of the group, so we took off to run 3, walk 1, repeat 7 times. It worked out pretty perfectly. We cut through the little neighborhood streets at the end to shave off some time so we could use my house to get ready and still get to work on time. I even found the time to make us both a healthy breakfast of egg whites with spinach and cracked pepper and wheat toast. She particularly liked that part. It might be the one thing that gets her back to try it again next week. She definitely found it more challenging than I did. I guess I didn't realize how much I have already built up my endurance over the past year. I always thought I would hate running in the morning, but maybe it's something I could do more often. If I keep up what I'm doing this week though, I definitely need to invest in more workout clothes or get very comfortable living in my own sweat.... It might be time to splurge for a few items of better quality workout gear.

But anyway, today is a beautiful day and I'm already getting energized for personal training session this afternoon. Hopefully I can whip my butt back into shape this month, or at least get headed in that direction.

Those all sound like great things, personally I don't know that I could wake up that early in the morning to workout, however, I am still a college student so that kind of explains it. I know you are going to do great! Congrats on building up your endurance!

Exercising in the morning makes me tired the rest of the day lol. Sounds great. It's nice outside here too.

That's awesome! It's also crazy how much I can relate to your blog post. I too dislike morning workouts but they always set such a good tone for the rest of the day (I think it's the waking up part that I don't like hehe)

I also have gotten obsessed with buying cute workout gear. It's always great to feel good about what you're wearing and that it fits right. So splurge a little and get some cute workout outfits ;) I encourage it haha

Woohoo for stepping out of your comfort zone and getting a morning workout in! It sounds like you're going to do really well following the challenge with the extra accountability. I know morning exercise is very energizing, but my bed is so warm and comfy! Keep us updated on your workouts this month. I may borrow some of your motivation to get up a bit earlier and do a workout!
