Reminder: A little is enough
Wednesday, May 01, 2013
Lately, I've been working really hard on getting enough exercise in. I achieved my goal to reach 1000 April minutes (first time I've done that...ever) and I would like to do it again. Past few days, though...I haven't even been hitting 30 minutes of exercise. Not good enough, I tell myself. I'm suppose to be getting 30-40 minutes in to really reap the benefits.
Slow down there, Chloe! You did those shorter workouts for a good reason! You ended up having a physically intense rest day. Then you had an intense run that couldn't be sustained for 30 minutes, especially since you were sore from the day before. And the next time you ran, you had eaten too soon, were tired from that first run, AND you were sick.
But you did it! On Sunday, you showed up at the gym at 8 to find out it doesn't open until 12. You didn't turn around and go back to your dorm. You headed out and ran through the natural lands. On Monday you could barely move, but did injury prevention yoga, which your body thanked you for. Then on Tuesday, you ran. You pushed yourself even though you weren't feeling good, and you did what you were able to. What matters is that you did it.
Don't they keep telling us that even just 10 minutes a day is important? You should build up to 30-40, but what is important is that you do it. Keep the habit. Remind your body of what you were suppose to do that day, even if it can't do the whole thing. Not everyone can be perfect every day. Sometimes you have to go easy or take a day off. But as long as you do something, it's better than nothing.
So cheer up, Chloe. You're doing great. You're getting fitter, but that doesn't always mean going for longer. Keep up the good work. Just remember that any exercise you get throughout the day is a victory over where you were a year ago.
