juice fasting

Friday, April 26, 2013

I am starting my juice fast again after a 6 day hiatus. I have got to. I enjoy the good feelings I get from juicing. Last night I couldn't sleep and had night sweats. When I juice, I sleep really well. I also don't have the energy as I do when I juice.

This time my husband said he would join me in a 3 day juice, but he will not give up his coffee. He does 2 pots a day of coffee, so going without it wouldn't be pleasant. At least he is willing to juice. He has given me the challenge of "make it taste good". He has taken a sip of what I normally drink and turned a sour face. It is going to be a challenge. I will have to put more fruit in his juice.

I don't know how my juice could be so nasty to him... after all, he is Norwegian, have you ever eaten lutefisk? It is the most horrible thing you can imagine. I got by the smell once and actually tasted it. I had such a hard time trying not to be rude and put on a good face in front of my MIL and family. If you don't know what lutefisk is, it is raw fish that you leave in lye for like forever until it smells and turns to yuck. Sorry if you are Norwegian and like lutefisk. Just keep in mind that I am mostly Danish and we are known for our pastries. They are a lot tastier. I have their song they sing at the family reunions going through my head now... "lutefisk and lefsa, lutefisk and lefsa, we're Norwegian, you betja." They are such a hoot.
Here is a link to another song about lutefisk that I have sung at one my husband's family reunion... well, I didn't get very far in singing it before I was booed into stopping. I even was threatened with being pelted with a lutefisk, but they didn't want to waste it.

So I am drinking even now my veggie juice on day 1 again? or day 14 (if I consider the 6 days eating a juice vacation). I still am dealing with the loss of my brother, but I am anxious to start up again.

I lost my brother in 2009. As JOHGLO2011 said, you really don't get over the loss but learn to move on. There are days when I miss him like a toothache, there are others when I'm so mad at him for not taking better care of himself, and most days just provide good memories that allow me to move on.

So Reuben, what sounds interesting? the Lutefisk? I have a recipe for it if you would like to try it. Who knows, maybe your uncle would add it to his menu. LOL. Again thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks for the hugs JOHGLO. Sometimes I wish I would have rapped him on the head like I did to my husband when he needed to stop his smoking. Not that I believe that would have really worked and contrary to what my husband says, I am not a violent person. I just wish I would have done something that could have stopped the drugs. Perhaps I should have told on him when we were younger all though I can't believe my parents didn't know something was happening.

LoL @ yur comments on Lutefisk, yur funny. Sounds interesting though Gratz on inspiring your hubby to join you in any capacity. Whatever day you call it, I still think you're amazing for being able to get back into it again, especially after your loss. Well done, all the best to you and your family, god bless, kia kaha.

Hi. I decided to restart my juice fast when I get back from our trip. Right now I am going to do a modified amount of juicing with one meal a day allowed. I think traveling will be too hard to get enough juice in and not having access to bathrooms.

I call my wheat grass juice combo the HUSBAND PRESERVER. Hopefully it will keep us in good health. It has wheat grass (I worked my way up to drinking 1 cup per quart.) You start with a shot glass of it mixed into the juice. I add apples, grapes, cucumber, bell pepper, carrots, and if I have it pineapple and if I have kale or parsley I will add them. The pineapple makes it extra yummy. Over time I worked my way up to drinking 2 quarts a day. It kind of depends on what we have on hand. The pineapple we only have once in awhile as they ripen irregularly and my husband likes to eat them. But when he is out and I can add them into the juice it is super yummy. Today I added in some tangelos into the mix.

As to what day you are on is up to you. It's ok to make mistakes and dust yourself off and get back on the horse again. emoticon

I don't guess we ever get over the loss of a loved one. We just learn to go on. emoticon
