Delayed onset muscle soreness...from gentle yoga???

I came home from the Major Family Event a week ago and promptly developed a chest cold. So between the whirlwind weekend & being ill (I actually took sick time from work, which seldom happens) I did no exercise for nine days--a very unusual occurrence in my life.
Yesterday, I dragged my sad self to two gentle yoga classes, and today my abs are reminding me of their presence.
On one hand, I am glad to have accessed the muscles; but on the other hand, did my fitness decrease that much in 9 days?
Another note to self: even if you have a cold, do a little bit of gentle yoga every day.

    My opinion only..........I have noticed that I cannot let any more than 2 days go by or my muscle conditioning will deteriorate to a point that I notice it.
    Having said that.......if I exercise too many days in a row without rest, then I have too much soreness and feel like I am breaking down and straining.
    It seems to be a delicate balance.
    Cross-training helps as well as very gentle stretching.

    This is a development within the past 10 years or so. I am 63 years old.

    Well, you are back on track. My doc laughed once as I really messed up shoulder doing downward dog. Told me yoga wasn't supposed to hurt emoticon

    Were you coughing with this cold as that uses your ab muscles as well as the yoga...perhaps the combination of the two put your abs in overdrive
