I've been growing it out lately, since I've never really had it long, and I wanted to try it. Figured I should do it now, while I'm young and it's strong and shiny enough to grow long (I'm aiming for mid-back length I think)... So I haven't had a haircut in like 6 months. I desperately need one, just to get it thinned out and to put some layers back in, and to have real bangs again! I will shell out the cash for that before summer classes start.

Problem: My hair was getting pretty washed-out. The golden-brown color of my youth is getting darker and more ashen with each passing year.

So I decided to go red. But I think I went a little toooooo red.

I was aiming for a light auburn color with reds and coppers... but it seems a shade or two too light for me. Having a little more brown in it will complement my skin tone better, I think, while still maintaining the red/copper tint.

This is the shade I am considering. It doesn't look much different, but it is 2 shades darker than the dye I just used.

What do you guys think? Keep or go darker? Also, do you think my hair needs a "break" from coloring, or will it pick up the darker dye right away? I am a total amateur when it comes to hair dye, and I need opinions!

Update: "You know nothing, Jon Snow!"
