Food Bank Thursday

Thursday, April 18, 2013

Today is what we call food bank Thursday. My husband is the senior pastor and we started a food bank 7 weeks ago. The first week we had 8 families come out. Last week we had 38 families and fed a total of 286 people that week. My food bill is running close to $200.00 a week. I don't know how we make it but by the Lord's grace the money comes in.
Today we had a terrible set back. The bread company that we get free bread told us this morning they didn't have any bread! We get about 300 loaves of bread, bagels and buns. Panera breads is sending over a large garbage bag with yesterday's items so that will help. We usually cook & serve food that we get in. Last week gleaners had chicken noodle soup so this is on the menu today along with crackers. I made 6 batches of corn bread at home to bring for today and I see some women of the church bringing in sheet cakes. I MUST stay away from that!! yikes.
I will post how we did today and also if I stuck to my caloric plan. Have a blessed day!! Where ever you are and if you have food, be thankful. I am.

Our area has a Community Cafe and several of my friends help there. I think they were given a large donation by a local paper manufacturing company which helps with the finances. There is no charge for the food although I understand they will take donations from those who use the service. They serve from 90 to 140 people twice a week and will send extra food home when they have extras.
