April 17th, Waiting Room

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Yesterday, I got lazy again and slept through my first alarm, so I didn't hit the gym, nor the elliptical... but, I did do my strength training exercises (which I will ((eventually)) log.)

I didn't exercise today. I had a Dr's appointment I forgot about- oops! And a headache, but I'm not talking about that.

Today at the Dr's office, it was very busy. My personal reason for being there wasn't a lengthy one- just a simple injection- so I'm usually seen in between scheduled appointments. However, there were a LOT of people in the waiting room, and in the office in general today.

Now, I'm a shy person, always willing to let bygones be bygones and let people do as they will. But, for some reason, everyone in the waiting room was open, and very friendly. I had an elderly couple sitting near me, discussing some bits on the news, and I was paying attention to them, so they started to include me in their conversation. Another woman also joined in the conversation as well, and when the elderly couple was called back, she and I started talking a little bit.. but then she got called up to the front window. As she was talking, a woman came out of the back with her young daughter, and she was waiting near the window to.. I guess either schedule another appointment, or get a prescription, or something. Anyway, the second woman from earlier started talking to her and her daughter, and I watched, bemused. Eventually the second woman left, and the little girl and I started talking, about her dolls and whatnot, and then they left too.

And, as I waited for the door to open and my name to be called, I was struck by how cool it was to have so many people, in one place, just willing to talk with each other and be open and friendly. I can honestly say, children aside, that I've never seen so much interaction among strangers in a waiting room before. It was nice.
