Weight loss journey of an old fat man

This is my last weight loss journey. I have been down this path many times before. This time I am dedicating my life to loosing weight and getting into shape. I give myself 2 tears to do it. If I am not close by that time I am going to let the doctors perform their bypass surgery.
Three years ago I was walking around on a sore right hip. One day something let loose in my hip and I experience excruciating pain. Of course I checked in with a local doctor (I was traveling, El Paso at the time) and he x-rayed and prodded and poked til I was in even more pain. Turned out my arthritic hip had gotten worse, very much worse. I have been hobbling around ever since, trying to loose weight.
My Filipina wife and I returned to the Philippines. But I wasn't a very good husband so she finally had enough of me and we are now separated. Last month I moved to Cebu in the Philippines with my girlfriend. We rented a one room condo (hotel room) with a small gym and a small pool. I started on a serious journey of loosing weight. I made a goal, and a plan to accomplish it. Part of my plan was to read something every day about loosing weight.
That was when I discovered Sparkpeople. This is almost as good in my life as Alcoholics Anonymous.
I have gone almost obsessive in my sparkpeople program. I do things that get me spark points all the time. Thus I get in lots of reading, about facts, guidance, and motivation. Amazing results. I gained 0.1 kg last weigh in, and I didn't freak out and take a break from my plan.
One of the things I did before was start a blog. Tried to get family and friends to follow it, but never happened. Many are very supportive though. I am quitting that blog and doing this one. I will transfer the 3 notes I wrote before to this blog over the next few days. emoticon

    Good luck on your journey for losing weight! I cannot imagine how painful your hip must be, so I know you want to lose weight so that you can have your surgery. There are exercises that you can do seated and also water exercises that you may be able to tolerate. Also, make sure you do this as a lifestyle change, it you make drastic changes in your diet, you will feel like you are depriving yourself and you will be more likely to cheat. Make sure you make small changes every week - start drinking more water one week, then introduce more fresh fruits and vegetables. Use the food tracker - that is how I keep myself honest! Make sure you check in and let us know how you are doing!

    I'll share with you what I've generally had to say tonight. We don't have to be perfect. We beat ourselves up for what we don't do. And we have these very high stadeards we set for ourselves. However, we are generally flawed, maybe seriously so. Does it really make any difference? I say not. No one is perfect. Glenn PS When you realize this, it is actually quite a relief.
