Nearly ready to go

Yesterday was a great day of training for my Maggie's challenge: a 13-mile hilly hike plus a 7-mile bike ride. I had hoped to do more on the bike, but it was ridiculously windy in Fife where I did my training yesterday, so I crapped out earlier than I expected! I'm not sure I even mentioned it on Spark before, but a while back I signed up for the Maggie's Monster Bike and Hike challenge, which takes place in three weeks. It is a 31-mile cycle followed by a 9-, 23- or 41-mile hike. I will have just returned from my tour, so I am pretty sure I'll only do the 9-mile hike, but I'm okay with that. This is my first time doing the Maggie's challenge...maybe I'll go for one of the longer distances next year! The whole thing is to raise money for Maggie's Centres, which are one of the best (and free!) cancer care and support resources in the UK.

I leave tomorrow for Iran. I'm kind of expecting that Spark People will be blocked by the government censors there; I can't get Facebook, any blogs and most news sites there and since SP has a blogging and community component, it's probably not allowed. So if you don't hear from me for the rest of the month, there's nothing to worry about. I'll see you in May...five pounds lighter!!!
