Salt Free Blackened Seasoning

The recipe I have today is a salt free blackened seasoning that my son found. He wanted something for when we have fish. He was thinking about the spicy grilled catfish from Cracker Barrel. Anyway, here's the recipe he found - don't know where but here it is:
1 1/2 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon ground thyme
1 teaspoon black pepper

Anyway our fish was great with this just baked in the oven. I've also used it to season other meats. I think if you wanted a spicier version you could add ground red pepper to taste. My son seasoned our first fish with a nice coating - not real heavy and it was good. The second time we had fish he sprinkled it on both sides of the fish before cooking. It was really good then because you had much more flavor. The fish he cooked was swai in the oven at 350 degrees.

As I said I've used it on pork loin chops, I made meatballs last night with it in it so it works pretty good on different things. I've also fried in small amount of oil potatoes to make home fries with it on it. I always like a basic recipe that I can play around with and get it to something I really like. I can see use using this a lot. I'm going to make up a bunch for us and then before I visit my brother I'll make him some since he doesn't use salt in his cooking. He doesn't know much about seasoning things and every time I visit I try to teach him a little more.

There's a wealth of recipes out there you just have to know where to look. My first stop is usually Allrecipes.com. It's my favorite. If I don't like what I see there then I do a google search for what I'm looking for and see what I can find.

If you have any great recipes you should share them. Just remember not everyone will like what you like. Sometimes the comments you get can improve on what you have made. I always read the comments on Allrecipes.com to see how different people thought it tasted. A lot of changes are sometimes in there and you can evaluate whether the recipe's for you or not.

I'll try to start sharing recipes with you. I lost a bunch of recipes when my laptop's hard drive crashed last year. So I'm trying to rebuild my collection. It's terrible how many I lost! So many family recipes gone forever which makes me sad. Have a great day y'all! Enjoy the weekend.
